By Matt Montgomery
CREATED Sep. 22, 2011 - UPDATED: Sep. 22, 2011
EAST TROY- The East Troy Police Department have confirmed to TODAY'S TMJ4's Steve Chamraz that two individuals have been pronounced dead at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
Authorities have not confirmed the ages of the individuals, but a family friend tells TODAY'S TMJ4 that the individuals are 11-month old twins.
East Troy Police Chief Alan Boyes reported that Walworth County authorities received a call for two non-responsive individuals around 2 p.m. Thursday.
"On my officers' arrival, they attempted CPR to two unresponsive people. The people were transported to Waukesha Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced deceased," said East Troy Police Chief Alan Boyes.
The East Troy Police Department has not talked about the circumstances of the individuals deaths, but a source tells TODAY'S TMJ4 that the two infants were left unattended in a bath tub.
TODAY'S TMJ4 reports that a man who lives across the street from that apartment complex said the family had four children: a 5-year-old, a 2-year-old and the infant twins.
That individual also said that the mother was supposed to be watching the children.
East Troy Police Chief Boyes said no one was in custody Friday morning.
The investigation happened at the apartment building on Church St., a couple blocks north of the town square.

Re: The BUTT- EVANS Twins - 11 Months - East Troy WI
EAST TROY, Wis. -- The mother of twins who drowned in a bathtub appeared in court Wednesday afternoon to face charges in her children's deaths.Melody
Butt, 26, is charged with two counts of child neglect resulting in
death, one count of child neglect and one count of child neglect -- as a
party to a crime. The criminal complaint states that on Sept. 22,
East Troy police officers received a 911 call from a man saying that he
had just arrived at the apartment on North Church Street and found two
children in a bathtub full of water. The complaint said Butt had
put her 2-year-old girl and one of the twins into the bathtub with water
in it. She then went into the bedroom and fell asleep with the other
twin.Butt told officers she worked third shift, and the father of
the 11-month-old twins was at work while she was at home with the
children.According to the criminal complaint, Butt's 6-year-old
daughter told a Children's Hospital forensic interviewer that she often
bathes the three younger children, changes their diapers and gives them
bottles. The criminal complaint does not explain how the second
twin got into the bathtub. Butt had taken the 6-year-old girl to school
earlier in the day.The complaint states the apartment was extremely filthy. Officers found diapers with feces and bottles with curdled milk.In
the criminal complaint, a representative from the Walworth County
Department of Human Services said that she would have removed the
children from the home because of the conditions. The twins' father, 28-year-old Christopher Evans is also charged with child neglect.

East Troy police officers detail scene at twins' drowning in testimony
Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011
ELKHORN — The first thing East Troy police officer Lucas Twelmeyer saw after responding to the home where two infants were found dead in a running bathtub was a frantic man pleading for help.
Derrick Ivory was “crying and hysterical” as he directed Twelmeyer inside the apartment.
“He said, ‘They’re inside, go save them,’” Twelmeyer told the court.
The children’s mother, Melody Butt, 26, was in court for the second time since her arrest earlier this month. Judge John Race determined after a 20-minute preliminary hearing there was probable cause to charge Butt with two felony counts of child neglect after her twin infants drowned Sept. 22 in the bathtub of her East Troy apartment.
Butt didn’t speak but sobbed loudly as East Troy police officers Twelmeyer and Aaron Hackett recounted their findings at the apartment. Twelmeyer was the first to arrive, and he found Ivory, Butt’s roommate, outside waiting for him.
Twelmeyer said Butt was sitting on the stairs outside of her apartment. Her face was buried in her hands, and she appeared upset.
Twelmeyer found the 11-month-old twins, a boy and a girl, lying on the floor of the living room. Neither was responding, and they were transferred to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.
According to the criminal complaint, Butt began filling a bath and put one of the twins in the water. She then went to her bedroom and fell asleep.
When she awoke, Ivory came home and was asking why the bath was running. He then discovered both twins in the tub.
Hackett said Butt admitted putting one of the twins in the tub, but she believed another girl living in the apartment, age 2, lifted the other child into the bath.
Testimony revealed at least one of the children was left unattended in the bath for about 40 minutes.
Police previously said seven people lived in the apartment, including Butt’s boyfriend, Christopher Evans, and a 6-year-old girl. Evans, who was at work during the incident, faces a misdemeanor charge of child neglect.
That charge likely stems from the condition of the apartment. Police said they found bottles with curdled milk and used diapers and food scattered around the apartment.
Hackett arrived separately from Twelmeyer as an ambulance was taking the children away. He said he found a “substantial amount of debris” floating in the tub when he arrived, including books, paper and plastic.
The defense did not call any witnesses during Friday’s hearing. Butt’s arraignment is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28.

Wow only a year for the death of two 11 month old twins. I'm surprised. I hope she learns her lesson. I also hope the other children in the home are in a safe place and she doesn't get them back any time soon. The two year old is lucky she didn't drown too.
