Amanda Knox pushes Casey Anthony to back burner

Who’s the big loser as Amanda Knox’s release generates major headlines?
Casey Anthony.
The rush for a Knox story is intense, as Stephanie Gosk reported on NBC’s “Today” this morning.
“There has been a steady stream of calls for interviews, book deals and movie rights,” Gosk said.
Did we hear such a statement after Anthony’s trial?
David Marriott, a media adviser to the Knox family, told NBC that discussions about how Knox will tell her story won’t take place for three weeks and it may be two to three months before she grants an interview.
But the interest is likely to remain high as the media’s fascination with Anthony has waned.
Knox departed Italy this week after a court overturned her conviction in the murder of a roommate, Meredith Kercher. Anthony was acquitted this summer in the 2008 killing of her daughter, Caylee.
Knox received a well-attended news conference when she returned home to Seattle. Anthony remains in hiding in Florida while serving probation for check fraud.
Knox’s story happened in Italy, so it didn’t become a referendum on the American justice system, as Anthony’s acquittal was for many.
Knox’s acquittal became a triumph for her family, which stood by her and fought the perception that she was a “she-devil.” Anthony’s trial exposed the bizarre frictions in a family where a toddler was the victim.
As a reader to my blog wrote: “The dignity and grace of the Knox family were in stark contrast to the Anthonys.”
George and Cindy Anthony didn’t help themselves in a three-part interview with “Dr. Phil,” which made a donation to the couple’s new foundation.
Knox has been the focus of a controversial Lifetime movie that her attorneys tried to stop, and so she can be seen as a media victim. Anthony drew her share of negative coverage, but she and her team also profited from a screwy system. ABC paid Anthony $200,000 to license video and photographs before she was charged in her child’s death.
Anthony’s getting money has cost her long term on the public-relations front. Many people see her story as tainted because it exposed the network gravy train.
Most news organizations want the Knox story. Any news organization that gets an Anthony interview will have a lot of explaining to do. And could anyone believe what Anthony, a well-documented liar, has to say?
There is one constant in the two stories: HLN’s Nancy Grace. She has said she hated that Knox’s original conviction was overturned and saw the acquittal as a miscarriage of justice.
On “The View,” Elisabeth Hasselbeck said of Grace, “She’s never been afraid of a bold statement. You look at Casey Anthony’s case, she was out there making bold statements right away. The difference was America was also agreeing with her, the general population actually thought the same way she did. This is a case where she absolutely is almost out on a limb by herself.”
She sure is. Most of America wants to hear from Knox. She’s is news, unlike Casey Anthony.
