A missing Porirua teen is feared to have run away to Los Angeles to meet a person she met on Facebook.
Kimberly Korad, 17, left her parent's Whitby home on Thursday night after a disagreement and has not been seen since.
There are fears for her safety as she has a physical disability.



Ms Korad is described as Asian, 162cm in height and of solid build.
On a Facebook page titled Kimberly Korad Gromm Modeling/Peforming Arts Page she describes herself as a fitness model.
"I am open to other kind of modeling. Just ask me on a private
message on my personal page. You will like what I am willing to do. ;)
"I am the next Kim Kardashian.''
She has also posted several videos online of herself singing.

A missing Porirua teen is feared to have fled overseas to meet a boyfriend she met on Facebook.
Kimberly Korad, 17, left her family's Whitby home on Thursday night after a disagreement and has not been seen since.
Porirua police Senior Sergeant Derek Chapman said Ms Korad, a polytech student, was believed to be in Sydney yesterday.
It was possible she was trying to get to the United States from there.
"At the moment we understand that she is in Sydney with the view of
wanting to travel to America and we will attempt to speak to her in
Sydney before she leaves."
At 17, Ms Korad was able to leave home without her parents' consent and travel if she wanted to.
"She's an adult and she has been reported missing, so from our point
of view we just want to know that she is safe," Mr Chapman said.
"We would not be trying to grab her or force her to go back home."
Police initially held fears for her because of an undisclosed physical disability, but no longer believed she was at risk.
Her parents were concerned about her running away to meet an online
boyfriend in Los Angeles and had reported her missing on Friday, just
hours before she flew out of Wellington.
Her mother, Sam Korad, initially believed her daughter had made it
to Los Angeles and had gone on to the Chilean capital Santiago.
Mrs Korad said her daughter told her she was going to meet a boyfriend in Los Angeles.
"She met the guy on Facebook. She said he was her boyfriend. I didn't see that guy's face, I didn't talk to him."
Late yesterday a family member had been in touch with Kimberly and tried to persuade her to return home.
"I think she's safe. I believe she is going to come home. I'm just
waiting because my cousin talked to her on Facebook but they didn't give
me the whole detail."
Mrs Korad expected her daughter, who used her savings to buy her airfare, to be home by today.
She is described as Asian with black hair and 162cm tall.
On a Facebook page called the "Kimberly Korad Gromm Modeling/Performing Arts" page she describes herself as a fitness model.
"I am open to other kind of modelling. Just ask me on a private
message on my personal page. You will like what I am willing to do. I am
the next Kim Kardashian."
She is also listed as a band member on the Pretty Young Rockers
Facebook page as a lead vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player.

Porirua teen Kimberly Korad is back home with her family after
fleeing overseas to meet an American boy she fell for on Facebook.

The 17-year-old ran away from her parents Whitby home
on Thursday after a disagreement and flew to Sydney the following night
using money from her savings.

It appeared she spent the weekend at Sydney Airport
before being intercepted by police yesterday trying to board a flight
to San Diego via Los Angeles, Senior Sergeant Martin Tunley of the
Porirua police said.

The polytechnic student was reunited with her worried parents late last night.

At 17, Korad was able to leave home without her parents' consent and travel if she wanted to.

She was not facing any charges but police would continue to work with
her to make sure "this sort of thing doesn't happen again'', Tunley
said.

"Obviously there's some issues because it's not a normal thing for someone her age to go and do.

"Her family are going to be wrapping a blanket around her and
showing her all the care that she needs and although she's not strictly
classified as a child or young person our youth aid section has offered
to continue working with the family and her.''

The young man in his early 20s who Korad was trying to meet had not been contacted by New Zealand police.

"We were initiating inquiries for that to happen yesterday but when we
realised that she had never left Sydney we focussed on getting her.

"So whether we take it further with that person I don't know.''

Korad co-operated with Sydney police once she realised the enormity of what she was attempting to do, Tunley said.

"Once she was told that the [United] States were not going to accept
her with a one-way ticket and no visa I think the enormity got top her
and she was very thankful.''

Police did not pay for her airfare home.
