AIRICK AMY - 2 Months - Maricopa/ Bakersfield CA
The Kern County Sheriff's Department is investigating the Sept. 28
death of a 2-month-old baby after an autopsy found that the boy, identified as Airick Amy
, had suspicious injuries , sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said Monday.
Deputies were called to a house in the 10 block of Cover Street in
Maricopa where the child was pronounced dead, Pruitt said. The baby had
reportedly stopped breathing, Pruitt said.
The child's parents, mother Francine Williams and father Jessie Amy, were interviewed by investigators, Pruitt said.
The coroner's office is awaiting the results of more tests to determine the cause and manner of death, Pruitt said.
Jessie Amy is in custody on unrelated child abuse charges, Pruitt
said, after Williams reported Sept. 26 that Jessie Amy had beaten and
bruised her two daughters who live with the couple though they are not
Amy's biological children.
Jessie Amy was arrested Sept. 29 and was arraigned on Oct. 3 on two
felony charges of inflicting injury upon a child, the Kern County
Superior Court website said.
The two girls, as well as the couple's 1-year-old, were taken into protective custody Sept. 29, Pruitt said.
Pruitt said Jessie Amy was wanted based on Williams' earlier abuse
allegations, but deputies did not arrest him when they received the
second call to the house Wednesday because they did not know he was
wanted and Williams did not indicate there had been an earlier incident.
