Search is on for missing 3-year-old Nevada County boy

Fresh search teams are headed to Nevada County to try to find a missing 3-year-old boy.

Davyn Wilkison wandered from his home in the hamlet of Washington about 25 minutes northeast of Nevada City about 2 p.m. Wednesday. He has not been seen since.

Davyn is described as blond, blue-eyed, about 3 feet 4 inches tall and 55 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

He was reported missing to the sheriff's department about 5:30 p.m. Handlers with their search dogs responded to try to find the boy.

About 30 searchers worked through the night. About 35 volunteer searchers are on the way to Nevada County to search on foot and aboard all-terrain vehicles.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter was scheduled to be in the air at daylight to search the heavily wooded area.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) -- Search-and-rescue crews on Thursday morning are scouring a rural area in Nevada County, looking for a missing 3-year-old boy.

Davyn Wilkison wandered from his home in the town of Washington around 2 p.m. Wednesday, according to the sheriff's department.

More than 20 people searched an area off Highway 20 in Washington overnight. They plan to resume their search at first light Thursday.
Davyn was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans. He is 3 feet 4 inches tall.

Crews find Northern Calif. boy reported missing

A 3-year-old boy who had been missing since Wednesday afternoon was found unhurt by a logger as search-and-rescue teams were scouring a thickly wooded area in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Law enforcement authorities say Davyn Wilkison was last seen at his home in the small town of Washington in Nevada County about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Dozens of Nevada County and El Dorado County teams joined the search effort Thursday, when the boy was found about 10 a.m. in the woods near the logger's house.

The child's grandmother had told KCRA-3 in Sacramento that Davyn was a "tough little boy" with good verbal skills and knowledge of his surroundings.

Washington is a former gold mining town along Highway 20 about 20 miles east of Nevada City.
