The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21-year-old Joshua
Ringgenberg of Show Low Oct. 13 on suspicion of child abuse
relating to an Oct. 10 incident.


The incident began, NCSO Sgt. Toni Garver said, when Ringgenberg
called 911 requesting an ambulance for a 1-year-old female child at
Silver Lake Estates. The child, a press release from the Sheriff’s
Office states, is the daughter of Ringgenberg’s girlfriend and the
three reside together. The child was transported to Summit
Healthcare.
“It was after that the Sheriff’s Office was contacted to respond to
the hospital,” she said. “The doctors evaluating the child found
there were some inconsistencies.”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, when Ringgenberg called up for
an ambulance, he said the toddler was unresponsive after he had
finished bathing her. However, the child’s injuries were so severe
she had to be flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Doctors there,
the release said, discovered massive head trauma and retinal
hemorrhages. Garver said the doctors in Phoenix confirmed the
inconsistencies in Ringgenberg’s initial report.
After a Sheriff’s Office criminal investigator received a call from
a forensic social worker at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, deputies
spoke with Ringgenberg again on Oct. 12. Garver said the
inconsistencies in Ringgenberg’s account, including how the
injuries occurred, continued.
Ringgenberg was arrested and booked into the Navajo County Jail on
one count of child abuse. The investigation is ongoing. The child’s
current condition is unknown.
