"Newborn Jane" JACKSON - 3 Months - Tucson AZ

Devon Jackson was taken into custody and arrested today for child abuse.
Jackson, age 20, was charged with 2 counts of Child Abuse (Class 2
Felony) and one count of Child Abuse (Class 4 Felony).

On the afternoon of October 11, 2011, the Tucson Police Department
received information that a 3-month old, female child had been taken to
the Emergency Department of a local area hospital with severe burns on
her body. Medical staff advised responding police personnel that the
child had third degree burns over 20% of her body. In addition, the
child had several broken ribs and bruises on various areas of her body.
Her parents were with her at the hospital. The child as later
transported to an Arizona Burn Center, but is expected to survive her
injuries.

Detectives from the Dependent Child Unit responded to further the
investigation. They collected evidence and conducted interviews with the
parents. The child’s father, identified as 20-year old Devon Jackson,
advised that the child had been burned while he was giving her a bath.

However, he was not able to provide any explanation for the rib
fractures or bruises. The injuries were indicative of possible child
abuse. Mr. Jackson had care and custody of the child at the time,
approximately 7:00 AM on October 11, 2011, of the incident. The child’s
mother was sleeping in the residence at the time of the incident and was
not considered a suspect. No arrest was made at that time pending
additional investigation.
