2-Month-Old NC Girl Taken From Hot Car

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Authorities said a 2-month-old infant was taken to a hospital after firefighters broke into a locked car.

Firefighters broke a window to reach the girl about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, when the
outside temperature was about 85 degrees. The mother arrived about 10 minutes later.

Lt. Wallace Welch said a passer-by noticed the infant inside the car and flagged down a fire truck.The
29-year-old mother was charged with child abuse. Jennifer Knox of Arden
said she had locked her keys in the car and couldn't reach her husband
on a cell phone, so she walked to the restaurant where he works to get keys.
