"Teen John Doe" - 14 yo/ Accused: Amanda Jolliff and Richard Smith - Denver CO

A Colorado mother and her boyfriend are in jail, arrested for allegedly keeping a disabled teen locked up in a trailer.
According to Denver police, the 14-year-old
boy was found locked in his room, reportedly rarely fed, sometimes only
once a day. Officers also found two dogs, two ducks, several parrots,
four toads and several mice living inside.

Police say the boy is mentally challenged and may have been severely neglected for years.

Amanda Jolliff, the boy's mother, and her
boyfriend Richard Smith are now facing child abuse charges. Late last
month, police say the two took off for New York, leaving the boy by
himself. He didn't know where to go, so he decided to go to a friend's
house and hid under the porch.

"Its gut wrenching," said Debbie Shaffer, who found the boy hiding under her porch. "It's so sad."

Shaffer and her boyfriend say they called police when they found the teen.

"From what my husband said, he was just scared," Shaffer said. "He was really afraid from when his mom came home."
