Four young children were found living in squalor, with two allegedly
housed in a wire animal kennel, North Platte, Nebraska, police said
Tuesday.
Four suspects, all adults who lived at the trailer home, face multiple charges, officials said.

Police got an anonymous tip and did a welfare check on the residence Monday, said Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling.

"Upon arrival and subsequent entrance into the residence, the
officers found the residence to be highly unsanitary and unsafe for
children to reside in," police Lt. Rich Hoaglund said in a statement.
"There was trash, dirty clothing, food and animal feces and urine
throughout the residence."

Two young children, ages 5 and 3, were found in the metal kennel,
which was secured by a wire tie, Hoaglund said. The cage reportedly had a
mattress.

The other two children, ages 8 years and 8 months, were not in the kennel but were considered to be in unsafe conditions.

Officers did not see any signs of obvious physical abuse to the children, Hoaglund told CNN.

Police said the four adults, whose exact relationships with the
children were unclear Tuesday, were aware of the conditions They were
charged with felony child abuse, first-degree false imprisonment and
misdemeanor child abuse, police said.

They were identified by police as Bryson L. Eyten, 25; Samantha J. Eyten, 24; Ashly A. Clark, 22; and Lacy J. Beyer, 20.

The children were placed in state custody, officials said.

The suspects were arraigned Tuesday afternoon and remained in jail
with $50,000 bond each, authorities said. Their preliminary hearings are
scheduled for Thursday.

A phone number listed for Clark was not working Tuesday evening. CNN
left a message at a number listed for Bryson Eyten. A person answering a
number listed for Samantha Eyten said it was the wrong number. Beyer's
listed phone number did not accept messages.

I wonder how those disgusting adults like sitting in a cage now. I hope they are punished for abusing those poor babies.

I hope they don't give those poor children back to those pigs. Please DCF find them a SAFE and LOVING home. I can't imagine the damage already done from being treated like a dog up up to the ages of 3 and 5.

NORTH PLATTE — The woman charged with putting her children in a dog
kennel at night has been granted visitation rights to see her children.

Ashly
Clark, 22, of North Platte is charged in Lincoln County District Court
with two counts of child abuse and two counts of false imprisonment,
along with three other individuals, in an October incident where police
found Clark's two children, ages 3 and 5, sleeping in a wired-shut dog
kennel.

Clark posted bail on Feb. 8, paying 10 percent of
$25,000, and at the time requested rights to see her children. Tuesday,
Judge Michael Piccolo granted her three supervised visits per week.

A Department of Health and Human Services employee must be present during the visits.
Clark
is charged along with Bryson and Samantha Eyten and Lacy Beyer in the
Oct. 24 case. All four pleaded not guilty in December, and the cases
have been continued several times since then.

This is disheartening. Why are they letting this mother who proved she's incapable of caring for her children to see them. She doesn't deserve to have children. What human being locks their kids in cages? Ridiculous.

Two of the four people charged in the October 2011 case where police found two kids shut in a dog
kennel have reached plea agreements.

Lacy Beyer, 22, and Bryson Eyten, 26, have each pleaded no contest to negligent child abuse and
second-degree false imprisonment, both class one misdemeanors.
Judge Michael Piccolo gave both defendants one year of probation in Lincoln County Court Thursday.
Similar charges are pending in county court for co-defendant Samantha Eyten, 25, and a hearing is set for July 12.

A fourth defendant, Ashly Clark, 23, is still facing
two charges of felony child abuse and two counts of false imprisonment,
all class 3A felonies. She is set to go before Judge Richard Birch on July 2.

The North Platte Police Department was called to a
home at 2421 E. E Street in North Platte on Oct. 24, 2011, on a welfare check.
According to a press release issued by the police
department on Oct. 25, officers reportedly found Clark's two boys, ages 3
and 5, in a wired-shut dog kennel, as well as the Eyten's two children,
ages 8 and 8 months, living in "highly unsanitary and unsafe"
conditions. The kennel, according to the NPPD was 42 by 28 by 30 inches.
Officers reported finding trash, dirty clothing, food and animal feces
and urine throughout the residence.

Initially, the Lincoln County Attorney's Office
charged all four defendants with two counts of felony child abuse, two
counts of false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
The misdemeanor child abuse charges were later dropped.

In April, lawyers for all four defendants filed
motions to suppress evidence obtained during their arrests, because they
were not read their Miranda rights after being taken into custody. That
evidence included depositions of Health and Human Services workers and
several police officers who interviewed the defendants before and after
they were taken into custody at 12:51 a.m. on Oct. 25. In May, Birch
ruled that anything before the four people were taken into custody would
be admissible, and any testimony after that point would not be allowed in court.

Birch sealed the depositions in a ruling in April, filed by the defense attorneys.

Thank god the children lived. These people should not be allowed on the street and should have NO contact with ANY children. They should be in jail.

We need to stiffen our laws when it comes to children. Stop this plea bargin (stuff). Get these people behind bars.

I saw several plea bargins recently where they pleaded to a lesser charge to get off the death penality for killing a child. This is just wrong. Take a childs life forfeit yours. Our state has been bad at convicting the wrong people then giving them the death penality. In most of the child death cases there is no doubt, especially when they plead to lesser charges to get off the death penality. In these cases where children are killed there should be no leniency.

couldnt have said it any better, william. crimes against children should have severe punishment in every case. there is nothing a child can do that justifies abuse and murder.

Mom gets probation for child abuse

The mother of two North Platte boys reportedly found by police locked in a dog kennel on Oct. 24, 2011, has received two years of probation.

Ashly Clark, 23, of North Platte pleaded no contest to one count of felony child abuse, a class 3A felony, in Lincoln County District Court on Monday. Clark waived a pre-sentence investigation and Judge Richard Birch ordered her to serve two years probation.

As part of a plea agreement, three other counts were dropped in the case.

Two other defendants in the case, Lacy Beyer, 22, and Bryson Eyten, 26, received one year of probation June 28 after they pleaded no contest to negligent child abuse and second-degree false imprisonment, both misdemeanors.

A fourth defendant, Samantha Eyten, 25, has a hearing set for July 12. She has misdemeanor counts pending in county court after reaching a plea agreement.

The North Platte Police Department was called to a home at 2421 E. E Street in North Platte on Oct. 24, 2011, on a welfare check.

According to a press release issued by the police department on Oct. 25, officers reportedly found Clark's two boys, ages 3 and 5, in a wired-shut dog kennel, as well as the Eyten's two children, ages 8 and 8 months, living in "highly unsanitary and unsafe" conditions. i really wish that child protective services would b more concerned with the actual health and well being of children that trying to force the issue of keeping families together at all costs. there also needs more uniformed laws governing the punishment given to idiots who abuse children. there is no excuse. i dont meant to sound like its all cps's fault. i feel like alot of times their hands r tied by law makers that have no experience with child abuse-they're never known an abuser, seen an abused child, etc. the punishment here does not anywhere near fit the crime inflicted on these childen. whether its lawmakers, the judge or anyone who could possibly have decided this was appropriate needs to get off their behind(s) and push for whats right for these kids not what looks and sounds good on paper. i hope they at least have the decency to get therapy for these children and to get them into loving homes asap.
