Two Casey Anthony prosecutors and one of her lead defense attorneys agree on something – releasing information about evidence before the trial inflamed their cases and they'd like to see the law changed so that such details are not made public before high-profile trials.
"Had this case been tried without public disclosure of information, it would have been a very different case," said retired Assistant State Attorney Jeff Ashton, speaking to 150 members of the Orange County Bar Association Thursday.
The engagement was titled "Lessons in Ethics & Professionalism from the Casey Anthony Trial." Much of the discussion dealt with the impact media coverage and commentary had on the case and the lawyers.
"I would eliminate discovery from public records," said Ashton, who questioned whether the benefit of the public knowing such information pre-trial outweighs the detriment done to the administration of justice.
Defense attorney Cheney Mason said he was a little "uncomfortable" agreeing with the prosecution, likening it to finding himself concurring with everything Rush Limbaugh might say on the radio.
