AMELEAH KEGLEY - 5 yo - Mansfield OH
A 5-year-old girl that made headlines last week after she drove her
mother's car to the street - is now missing and police are looking for
her and her mother.
Mansfield Police say during a hearing in juvenile court Friday, the
court awarded temporary custody of Ameleah Kegley to her great
grandmother.
Police say they believe Ameleah’s mother, Christina Hunter slipped out of court and took her daughter - violating court order.
Captain Marijan Grogoza with the Mansfield Division of Police, says
they do not believe Ameleah is in danger and believe they're somewhere
in or near Galion.
“We activated the child is missing telephone notification for that
area to see if anybody had seen Ameleah and her mom,” said Captain
Grogoza.
Police say if Hunter doesn't surrender Ameleah, she could be looking at misdemeanor and felony charges.
Temporary custody was ordered to her great grandmother while
investigators look into the circumstances that allowed Ameleah to get
behind the wheel of a car before it backed down a sloped driveway,
stopping on grass across the street last week.
“We'd like to encourage Christina to cooperate with the police,
Richland County Children Services and the Richland County Juvenile Court
and bring Ameleah in,” said Grogoza. “Ameleah is going to stay with
her great grandmother for a few weeks until the courts can sort out some
of the life issues that might be going on in this relationship.”
