RESTON, Va. — Fairfax County police say the parents of a
1-year-old girl who drowned in a hotel room bathtub have been charged
with child abuse and neglect.

Police say 27-year-old Wafy Abdullah Almutiri and 21-year-old Maryam Masaad Almutiri of Fairfax turned themselves in on Monday.
Officers were called to the Westin Hotel in Reston on Sept. 18 for a
report of an apparent drowning. They found the body of the couple’s
child, Wreef Wafy Almutiri. The couple was in the hotel but apparently
not in the bathroom with the baby at the time.
An investigation into the girl’s death continues.
