-- Pleasanton police are asking for the public's help in finding a
missing Amador Valley High School student, who they say hasn't been seen
since Monday and may be with a wanted felon.

Shelby Harris, 15,
was last seen Monday by friends and family and told her parents she
would be home by the end of school. Police said Wednesday that Harris is
likely with Gavin McFate, a 25-year-old Livermore resident for whom
there is an outstanding Alameda County felony arrest warrant.


Pleasanton
police did not release details of the arrest warrant and said they were
unsure if Harris was with McFate voluntarily or against her will.
McFate
and Harris were last seen Tuesday morning in Concord in a late 1990s
black Honda Accord or Civic with missing license plates.
Harris is
described as a white female, 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds with black hair
and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a red cape, red shirt, blue
jeans, black high heels and a Mardi Gras mask.
McFate is a white male, 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

The Pleasanton Police Department is asking people to keep their eyes open for a 15-year-old girl who has been reported missing.

The girl, Shelby Harris, was last seen by friends and family on
Halloween day at Amador Valley High School. She told her parents that
she would return home at the end of the school day.

Harris is white, 5 foot 7 inches and approximately 140 pounds with black
hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a Halloween costume
consisting of a red cape, red shirt, blue jeans, black high heels, and a
Mardi Gras mask.

A police investigation has determined Harris is most likely in the
company of Gavin McFate, 25, who is wanted on an Alameda County felony
arrest warrant. McFate is a white male, 6 foot 3 inches, approximately
210 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

McFate and Harris were last seen in the Concord area on the morning of
Nov. 1. They may be in a black late '90s model Honda Accord or Civic.

It is unknown at this time if Harris is with McFate voluntarily or against her will.

Anyone with information that may aid in the ongoing investigation and
the recovery of Harris is urged to contact the Pleasanton Police

Police think Shelby Harris is with 25-year-old Gavin McFate, wanted on a felony warrant for allegedly having sex with a minor.

Shelby Harris, a 15-year-old Amador Valley High School student last seen on Halloween wearing a costume, is missing and is believed to be with a man wanted on a felony warrant.

Police released information yesterday, and several media outlets did stories. However, as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday, there were no new leads.

"There's nothing new — we're still following leads but we're coming up against dead ends," said Sgt. Kurt Schlehuber.

"The goal is to keep this information out in the community and maybe get some information that can help bring her home."

Harris told her parents that she would return home at the end of the school day Monday, but never returned, according to Lt. Jeff Bretzing of the Pleasanton Police Department.

His profile on MySpace, which didn't look as if it had been updated in recent years, described him as athletic, religious and a professional who works in Dublin.

According to a poster posted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the two could be headed to the Sacramento area.

Missing 15-Year-Old Found, Her Companion is in Custody


Shelby Harris is back with her family and Gavin McFate was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant.
Shelby Harris, the 15-year-old Amador Valley High School student who went missing on Halloween day, is back with her family, police reported Sunday afternoon.


Police arrested her companion, Gavin McFate, 25, on a $1.8 million
felony warrant; he was booked at Santa Rita Jail without incident.


Lt. Jeff Bretzing said in a press release that Shelby was uninjured and is cooperating with the investigation.


Harris and McFate were located after someone called an anonymous tip
into the police department. The caller told the police he had watched
the news and remembered seeing Harris and McFate in the area of Westley,
Calif.


Detectives responded to Westley early Sunday morning, and found the two staying at a motel off of Interstate 5.
"Shelby’s family is very relieved she has returned safely," Bretzing said in the release.

"The Pleasanton Police Department would like to thank everyone who
helped us locate Shelby and bring this situation to a peaceful
conclusion."


Harris told her parents that she would return home at the end of the
school day on Halloween day, but never returned. Police determined
early on that she was most likely with McFate.


Police said they didn't believe it was an acute kidnapping, where
McFate snatched her and threw her into a car, for example. But they did
say that because Shelby is so young, they were treating the situation as
if she was not with him voluntarily.


The warrant was for allegedly having sex with a minor.

The man connected to a Pleasanton teen who went missing for several days
last week is in critical condition following an apparent suicide
attempt Monday night.

Gavin McFate, 25, was arrested Sunday morning after he and Shelby
Harris, 15, were located at a motel in Westley, Calif., following an
anonymous tip to police. It is not known whether Harris was with McFate
voluntarily, but Harris was wanted on an Alameda County warrant on prior
charges that included unlawful intercourse with a minor and lewd acts
with a child under 14.

McFate was on his way Monday night to the showers at Santa Rita Jail
when he tried to kill himself, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the
Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

"He jumped off the tier to the ground below," Nelson said, explaining
that the jump was equivalent to diving head first off the second story
of a building. "He's in bad shape."

McFate was set for an arraignment today. He has not been charged in
connection to Harris' disappearance but faces a total of four earlier
sexually related charges, along with a charge of using a minor to carry
or sell drugs and one count of possession of a non-narcotic controlled
substance, which is typically connected to methamphetamine possession.

Harris, a 15-year-old Amador Valley High School student, went missing on
Halloween day. She and McFate were spotted Nov. 1 in the Concord area.

Harris was returned safely to her parents after the pair was seen Sunday
at a motel near Interstate 5 in Westley, which is in Stanislaus County,
about 45 miles away. Pleasanton police made the trip to the motel where
they captured McFate and brought Harris home.

McFate had been ordered held on $1.8 million bail. He's currently being treated at a local hospital, which has not been named.
