MYRONEIKA MAZIQUE - 14 yo - Memphis TN
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - "I love you and the safest place you can be right now is with me," said Olivia Mazique.
Olivia says her most recent conversation with her 14-year-old daughter Myroneika Mazique began like many others.
"'Ma, I have the garbage, gonna take it to the trash can,' and I can hear it like she said it yesterday."
But Olivia says Myroneika never returned. She suspects she left to meet a man whom she met over the internet.
"I
firmly believe whoever she had been talking to over the internet
convinced her of something, who knows what they did to lure her away."
The single mother links the disappearance to her daughter's increased cyberspace activity.
"In their inbox message with Facebook they had been giving out the home number, posted to different people."
Since
then, Olivia changed their home phone number, plus deleted Myroneika's
Facebook page. But she learned the most about Myroneika's virtual
reality, after she took off.
"She posted 9 to 12 different websites...her profile pic, that she's 24," said Mazique.
"She's
considered an endangered runaway, we don't know who she's with," said
Asst. Chief Mark Dunbar, Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
Dunbar
says most runaways are victims of internet predators, but he notes
computers offer parents, controls to help protect children before they
become targets.
"If they don't want to be found it's difficult, most people with them are smart enough not to be found," said Dunbar.
While
Dunbar says Myroneika called a relative Friday to say she's Ok, she
quickly hung up, leaving investigators without a trace.
The
sheriff's office says many of Myroneika's recent phone calls were from
men all over the country. While it's typically difficult to locate
runaways, they say most do turn up.
Myroneika is described as five-foot-seven, 140 pounds, brown hair and eyes, with a scar on top of her right forearm.
Anyone with information about Myroneika is urged to call Crimestoppers at 528-CASH.

Re: MYRONEIKA MAZIQUE - 14 yo - Memphis TN
A Memphis mother is asking for help in finding her daughter she
believes was lured away from home by a man she met on the internet.
14 year-old Myroneika Mazique was last seen by her family Wednesday
night. Shelby County detectives are calling her an endangered runaway.
"She's just a baby. She's a baby who sits in front of the television and
turns on the channel." said mother, Olivia Mazique.
Mazique says, Wednesday night, her daughter 14 year-old Myroneika,
left to take out the trash and never returned.
"So I got up and I was like 'Myroneika, you hear me calling you?,'
and I am walking all through the house." said Mazique.
Police believe the Highland Oaks 8th grader was lured by a
man she met on the internet. They found Myroneika with profiles on about
12 different sites.
"She was saying, that she's 24." said her mother.
The young teen's call logs show, she's been in contact with people in
Little Rock, Jackson, Mississippi, Indianapolis and as far away as
Maine. Her mother thinks, some adult helped her daughter run-away.
"Her pictures had been deleted off the computer, the voice mail
had been changed on her phone." said Mazique.
The teen has made contact with relatives out of town, but as soon
as they start asking questions, the phone goes dead.
Her mother is desperate to find her and warns other parents to watch
their children and know who they're talking to.
"You pay a cell phone bill every month and someone could be
manipulating your child. You think just because they are in the house,
they are safe." said Mazique.
If you know anything about where Myronique Mazique might be,
call the Shelby County Detective Division at (901)379-7625.

Re: MYRONEIKA MAZIQUE - 14 yo - Memphis TN
A 14-year-old Memphis girl is safe after spending a week with a man
nearly twice her age who she met online. Myroneika Mazique's
disappearance sparked panic from both her mother and authorities after
they learned of the girl's online habits.Authorities picked up
Myroneika Tuesday afternoon at a friend's house after she contacted a
relative. She had spent the week with a 26-year-old man on Clementine
in South Memphis after meeting him on the adult social network site
"Tagged." Deputies say the teen had been posing as a 24-year-old woman.
"Situations
like this don't often end with a happy ending," said Shelby County
Sheriff's Spokesman Chip Washington. "As a parent, you need to be
engaged in what your young people are doing to the point where if you're
bugging them, you're doing your job."
Even after her mother shut down her Facebook
account months ago, authorities say Myroneika had profiles on about
twelve websites, and was chatting with men across the country. Last
week, the teen told her mother she was taking out the trash, but instead
left to meet the 26-year-old.
News Channel 3 interviewed Myroneika's mother, Olivia Mazique, on Saturday when her daughter was still missing.
"I think this is a game to her," said Olivia Mazique. "You can log
onto the computer and be anywhere in the world instantly and you don't
know who you're dealing with."
Mazique has since locked her computer, so her daughter can only log on when she's home and supervising.
"They will have limited usage. This has prompted awareness in my life," Mazique said.
The 26-year-old man was taken into police custody, but has not been charged. The investigation is continuing.
