BELLEVUE—
Bellevue police are searching for a two-year old boy who went missing Sunday morning on the 2400 block of 112th Avenue NE.

The boy's mother ran out of gas at that location and she left her
two-year-old in the car while she walked to get help — she took her four-year-old son with her.
SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA 389647940-06131305

When the mother and four-year-old returned to the car approximately an hour later, the boy was gone.

"Approximately an hour later she returned to the vehicle and the baby
was gone," police said in a statement, CNN reported. The boy was reported missing at 9:50 a.m.

The child, Sky Metalwala, is of Indian and Caucasian descent, with
brown eyes, dark buzz-cut hair, a dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue
and gray striped Carter pants. The picture above is what he was wearing when last seen.

As of 5:45 p.m. Sunday, the mother was still talking to detectives. The four-year old boy was back with family.

About 50 people, including police with tracking dogs, fanned out
around the area Sunday to try to find the boy, said Carla Iafrate, a spokeswoman for Bellevue police told CNN.

Iafrate said the parents of the boy are cooperating.

Police have cleared the scene and the search has been called off for the evening.

Anyone who sees a child matching this description is asked to call 911 immediately.

Why in such an area would you:

Why in the world would a mother leave a baby by itself in a car and be gone for an hour??? Why didn't she take both kids with her. If I was going to walk more than 5 feet from my car (as in using a gas pump at a gas station) I would take all my children with me.

My first thought would be a good samaritan saw the baby crying in the car and got it out, but they should have called police. Hopefully the baby will be found, but shame on the mother for leaving it alone for an hour.

Initially when I posted the story I would have figured that they were in the middle of a desolate area. When I Google mapped it there are all kinds of surrounding properties including several parks that must have had all kinds of traffic at this time of the day.
There will be more on this as I do not think that Sky would have had the ability to get out of the car seat by himself and manage to get out the door.
That's another thing that's fishy. Why would the Mother have taken a picture this morning? Supposedly that's what we are looking at.

Bellevue police search for missing 2-year-old boy

Police and search dogs fanned out in a wooded area of Bellevue on
Sunday, looking for a 2-year-old boy after the child's mother discovered
him missing from a car parked near the 2600 block of 112th Avenue N.E.

The parking lot of nearby Bellevue Montessori School, in a part of
Bellevue called Northtowne near I-405 and Highway 520, filled with
emergency vehicles as the search continued into the afternoon and then
into the chilly evening. Officers suspended the search around 6 p.m. and
had no immediate plans to continue in the morning.

"King County felt like they had done a very thorough search of a
pretty wide area for the boy and were confident that he wasn't there,"
said Officer Carla Iafrate, spokeswoman for the Bellevue Police
Department.

The search began after Bellevue police responded at 9:50 a.m. to a
call from a woman who said she had run out of gas and left the child,
Sky Metalwala, buckled into a car seat while she and her 4-year-old
walked about a mile to a Chevron gas station.
There, police said, the mother called a friend. The mother told
police the friend picked her up as she was walking back to her 4-door
silver Acura, but when they reached the car, the boy was no longer
there. The mother told police the car was not locked.

There was no sign of forced entry, police said.

"We don't know much, other than that the child is still missing,"
Iafrate said. "I don't know if the child got out on his own. We don't
have very much information."

Police did not find a gas can at the car, Iafrate said.

The child has brown eyes and dark buzz-cut hair and was wearing a dark-green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray striped pants.

Detectives were working into the evening with the mother, who is from
Redmond, Iafrate said. The father, who lives in Kirkland, had also been
contacted.

About 50 emergency responders and King County Search & Rescue
crews were still searching the area as darkness and temperatures fell
Sunday evening.

"You have to be very meticulous," Iafrate said.

After police received the 911 call, they initiated reverse emergency
calls to the surrounding neighborhood to alert residents to be on the
lookout for a child. Iafrate said police have not issued an Amber Alert
because they don't know yet if the child has been taken.

"At this point we're just treating it as a missing child," Iafrate said. "We don't know anything more yet."

Anyone with information about the child's whereabouts is asked to call 911.

The FBI has joined the search for a 2-year-old Washington state boy who
was last seen by his mother inside a parked car.

Sky Metalwala was reported missing Sunday morning after his mother
discovered him missing from her car in Bellevue, Wash.

The child's mother told police that she had
run out of gas and left the boy buckled into his car seat while she and
her 4-year-old daughter walked to a Chevron gas station, about a mile away.

When the pair returned to the silver Acura approximately an hour later,
the 2-year-old boy was gone, Fox affiliate KCPQ-TV reports.

The woman reportedly told police that the car was not locked.

The toddler is of Indian and Caucasian descent, with brown eyes and dark hair,
according to police. He was reportedly last seen wearing a
dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray-striped pants.

His mother was interviewed by detectives
Sunday night, while the 4-year-old girl was being looked after by family
members, according to the station.

About 50 people, including police with
tracking dogs, fanned out around the area Sunday in their search for the
child, Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate told the station.

Iafrate said the boy's parents were cooperating.

Anyone with information on the boy's whereabouts is being urged to call 911.

Authorities say the parents of a missing 2-year-old Bellevue boy are in a custody fight.
Julia Biryukova
(beer-yoo-KOH'-vah) says Sky Metalwala vanished when she left him alone
in a car Sunday when it stalled and she left with her 4-year-old
daughter to get gas.

Authorities say Biryukova
and Solomon Metalwala separated in March 2010 amid back & forth
protective orders and allegations of abuse and psychiatric problems.

An attorney for Metalwala
says that case worker had only interviewed the mother and that Child
Protective Services later conducted an investigation that cleared
Metalwala.

On Monday, investigators searched a 20-block area and even went door to door but found no sign of the boy.

The Bellevue Police Department said both parents were cooperating.

Post by TomTerrific0420 Tue Nov 08, 2011 4:40 am

BELLEVUE, Wash. — The father of a missing Washington state toddler
said Monday that his estranged wife's story about the case - that the
boy disappeared from an unlocked car after she walked away for an hour
to go get gas - doesn't add up.

"I don't understand why she would leave a little baby in the car,"
Solomon Metalwala told reporters at his lawyer's office. "The whole
story is puzzling."

Julia Biryukova told investigators that her car ran out of gas Sunday
morning in Bellevue, and that she left her 2-year-old son, Sky
Metalwala, inside while she and her 4-year-old daughter walked to a gas
station, police said. She said a friend picked her up at the gas
station, and when they got back to the car, the boy was gone.

Court documents revealed that both Biryukova and Metalwala had been
cited for reckless endangerment in 2009 after they acknowledged leaving
Sky, then 3 months old, in their Cadillac sport-utility vehicle in a
Target parking lot on a 27-degree day.

Documents also show that the couple had filed for protective orders
against each other, with Biryukova saying her husband beat her and the
children, and Metalwala saying she had mental health problems and
invented the allegations.

Last December, a social worker determined that there was a
"preponderance of evidence" that Metalwala had struck his daughter hard
enough to cause bruising, court records show. The social worker also
said Sky had troubling bruises, but because the boy could not talk, it
wasn't clear where he got them.

The disappearance came during a bitter custody dispute. Metalwala's
lawyer, Leslie Clay Terry III, said that a mandatory mediation session
last Tuesday produced an agreement that would have allowed his client
some visitation rights.

Investigators searched a 20-block area and even went door to door but
found no sign of him. The FBI, King County Sheriff's Office and a King
County helicopter were enlisted to help.

The Bellevue Police Department said both parents were cooperating,
and Biryukova had consented to have her vehicle and home in nearby
Redmond searched. Biryukova did not immediately return a call seeking
comment.

"We're looking at it from all angles, at this point," said Bellevue
Police Maj. Mike Johnson. "Missing person, abduction, foul play has not
been ruled out."

In December 2009, officers in Redmond cited Biryukova and her
husband, Solomon Metalwala, for reckless endangerment. A shopper who
heard the baby crying in the SUV called police, and a responding officer
reported that the car felt cold.

Paged inside the store, the couple said they had left the baby in the
car for 15 to 20 minutes because they didn't want to wake him up.
Surveillance video of the parking lot later proved it had actually been
55 minutes.

The case was dismissed early this year after the pair completed a
year of probation, 40 hours of community service and a 10-week parenting
class, said Ian Goodhew, a spokesman for the King County Prosecutor's
Office.

The couple had been together for 14 years. He was 21 and she was a
15-year-old high school sophomore when they began dating, according to
one of her court declarations.

Her mother, Nadia Biryukova, wrote in a court declaration that they
married in 2003 in her kitchen just before he was to be deported to
Pakistan.

The couple separated in March 2010, court records show. In June 2010,
the same month Metalwala filed for divorce, Biryukova, 30, filed for a
protection order on behalf of herself and their two children.

She said Metalwala, 36, had a severe anger problem, was verbally
abusive and that he had beat her for the first time on Christmas Day,
just weeks after the incident at the Target parking lot. The reason was
that she had allowed Sky to sleep later than expected, she said.

"He became furious like I have never seen him before, he grabbed me
by my hair (in front of our 3 1/2 year old daughter), dragged me into
our hallway, threw me down on the floor and then threw me against a
decorative column we have in the entrance of our home," Biryukova wrote.
"He continued to assault me with his feet - by kicking me and then he
took out his car keys and continued to scratch me in any area he could."

The abuse escalated after that, with Solomon telling her to go live on the street and work as a prostitute, she said.

"The most, most recent have been his threats to kill me if I say
anything against him or if in any way I proceed with action of seeking
custody of our two small children," Biryukova added. "I live in constant
fear for my life and my children's life. Please investigate and help
me!"

He responded that she had mental health problems and was
involuntarily committed to a mental clinic in 2010. But earlier this
year a social worker with state Child Protective Services reported that
caregivers found her to be in good mental health and an appropriate
caregiver for the children.

CPS received six referrals about the family from late 2009 to late 2010, state officials reported in court documents.

Boy vanished amid parents' bitter divorce

The Sunday disappearance of 2-year-old Sky Elijah Metalwala came only
four days after his parents endured 11 hours of mediation aimed at
ending a bitter divorce in a compromise that awarded custody of the
couple's two young children to their mother but allowed visits with
their father.

Sky's mother, Julia Biryukova, said the toddler disappeared after she
left him alone in her unlocked car in Bellevue on Sunday morning after
she ran out of gas.

According to police, Biryukova said she walked with her 4-year-old
daughter to a Chevron station about a mile away. She called a friend who
picked her up before she returned to her car.

When they arrived at the silver Acura Integra more than an hour later, Sky was gone, police said.

Police said there was no sign of forced entry into the car nor was
there a gas can or any indication of car trouble. Police said the car
started right up.

An extensive search of the area near the 2600 block of 112th Avenue
Northeast, where the car had been parked, was suspended Sunday evening.
Police resumed the search Monday morning in the area surrounding
Biryukova's Redmond home, according to Bellevue police. The FBI also has
joined the search.

The boy's father, Solomon Metalwala, said police also searched his Kirkland home.

Officer Carla Iafrate, spokeswoman for the Bellevue Police Department, said both parents are cooperating in the investigation.
"No arrests have been made at this time," she said. "All
possibilities of what may have happened to the child are being
investigated."

She said there are still "many unanswered questions."

Investigators are asking anyone who may have traveled along 112th
Avenue Northeast, between Highway 520 and Northeast 24th Avenue
Northeast, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday to call Bellevue police at
425-577-5656.

The couple's 4-year-old daughter, Maile Metalwala, has been taken
into protective custody and placed in foster care, according to a
spokeswoman for the state's Child Protective Services.

Efforts to reach Biryukova, 30, and her attorney were unsuccessful.
Her younger brother, Stanley Biryukova, said she was crying frantically
when she called him Sunday afternoon and explained what had happened.

"I'm hoping they'll find the child," he said.

It wasn't the first time Sky had been left unattended in a car, according to court documents.

The child's parents were charged with reckless endangerment in 2009
after leaving Sky, then 3 months old, in their car while they shopped at
a Target store on a 27-degree day. Paged inside the store, the couple
said they had left the baby in the car for about 20 minutes because they
didn't want to wake him up, but surveillance video showed it was closer
to an hour.

Both took parenting classes and completed community service before
the case was dismissed in February of this year, court documents show.

Metalwala, 36, said Monday that the incident was a learning experience.
"I really made a mistake," he said during a news conference at his
attorney's Bellevue office. "And I learned a very valuable lesson."

Metalwala's family is from Pakistan, and Biryukova, who is Ukrainian,
immigrated with her family from Russia when she was 12, court records
say.

The two met at Bellevue High School when Biryukova was 15 and
Metalwala was 21, according to court records. She became a U.S. citizen
at age 19.

In a declaration made by Biryukova, the couple were married on Feb.
10, 2003, in the kitchen of Metalwala's family home in Kirkland because
he was facing deportation to Pakistan.

The couple began experiencing financial troubles around the time Sky
was born in September 2009. They were hounded by bill collectors and
faced foreclosure on a house and condominium, court records say.

Biryukova was committed to three mental-health facilities, the first
time on her 29th birthday in March 2010, according to court records. But
a psychologist's evaluation concluded three months later that she was
not psychotic and suggested she agreed to be committed only "under
spousal duress."

One psychologist who evaluated Biryukova wrote later that year that
although she was dealing with "a severe form of obsessive compulsive
disorder, I do not believe that interferes with her ability to be a
compassionate, effective parent to her children."

According to court documents, Metalwala filed for divorce on June 4,
2010, and the proceedings have been bitter, punctuated by accusations on
both sides. Both have filed for protective orders against each other,
and each has had custody of the two children at times.

Biryukova accused her husband of being controlling and physically and emotionally abusive.

"The most, most recent have been his threats to kill me if I say
anything against him or if in any way I proceed with action of seeking
custody of our two small children," Biryukova wrote in court documents
in June 2010. "I live in constant fear for my life and my children's
life."

Metalwala denies the allegations of abuse and says Biryukova invented them to spite him and manipulate the divorce proceedings.

He claimed in court documents that she is mentally unstable and has
obsessive compulsive disorder that prevents her from being able to keep
food in the house or allow the children to sleep in their beds.

Court records also show that Child Protective Services (CPS) had investigated the couple.
In one instance, Biryukova reported her husband had left bruises on
their daughter by striking her, and a social worker told the court there
was evidence to support the allegations. A full CPS investigation,
however, showed the complaint to be unfounded, according to Metalwala's
attorney, Leslie Clay Terry III.

Terry said the mandatory mediation in which the couple participated
last week was intended to bring a close to the bitter divorce. Both
parties had compromised, he said, and an agreement that granted custody
to Biryukova but allowed visitation with Metalwala was signed by both.

"On Friday, she called and said she'd felt pressured and wanted to void it," Terry said.

Metalwala said he is praying that his son simply is being hidden somewhere and that he is safe.

He has a message for whoever may have him.

"Please, sir or ma'am, if you have Sky, please bring him to the
police, fire department or the hospital. Thank you for taking care of
Sky this long, but please return him."

Oh brother...what a mess between the parents. It's he said, she said, but I'm almost sure that one of them arranged to have the baby taken away and hidden, most likely the mother. The father is asking why she would leave the baby alone so I don't think it was him. Who knows if there is child abuse involved, but her story doesn't add up and I think it's a shame to involve expensive searches if she arranged the baby's abduction.

Police suspect 'foul play' in disappearance of Bellevue boy

by KING 5 News
Posted on November 8, 2011 at 6:48 AM
Updated today at 9:01 AM

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Bellevue police say they suspect foul play in the disappearance of 2-year-old Bellevue boy Sky Metalwala.
"Given the limited amount of information we have, the fact that there's really no solid leads to follow up on in regard to where he might be. Absolutely, we suspect foul play," said Major Mike Johnson, Bellevue Police Department.
"Someone close to this family knows what happened to this child," he added.
Johnson said police have not received any new clues in the past 24 hours. They do have a second polygraph test scheduled with the missing boy's father, Solomon Metalwala, Tuesday morning. Meanwhile, the boy's mother, Julie Biryukova, has declined to take a polygraph test.
Two-year-old Sky hasn't been seen since Sunday morning. The toddler's mother said he disappeared when she left him in an unlocked car after she ran out of gas on a Bellevue road.
"We don't even know if he was in the car," Johnson said. He said it was "highly unlikely, but possible" the boy could have gotten out of the car by himself, but the information "just doesn't add up."
Police have not named Biryukova as a suspect, but investigators did search the Redmond apartment where Biryukova lives with Sky and her 4-year-old daughter, including the building's dumpsters, and were expanding the radius of the search at the residence.
Meanwhile, Biryukova's 4-year-old daughter is staying with another family in state custody.
Sky's father took a polygraph test Monday night that came back inconclusive. His lawyer said Solomon was too tired to give an accurate result and would take another test later to clear his name. Solomon Metalwala spoke publicly Monday night.
"I'm a dad. I'm going to be strong for my son, who's out there," said Solomon. "Please to return Sky to the police officers, to the fire department, to the hospitals."
Solomon Metalwala said he has not seen his son in nearly a year due to a custody dispute with his ex-wife, Julia Biryukova, Sky's mother.
Biryukova told police on Sunday morning she took her 4-year-old daughter with her and left Sky in the car in the 2400 block of 112th Ave N.E. When she came back about an hour later, she said Sky was gone. Investigators said the boy's car seat was still in the car and there were no signs of forced entry.
Search teams went door-to-door and combed an area roughly 20 city blocks long Sunday. Police suspended the search in the wooded residential neighborhood around 6 p.m., but continued to follow up on other leads, including questioning the mother at headquarters.
"Search and rescue is confident that the child is nowhere in this area," said Carla Iafrate, Bellevue police.
The North Towne Chevron, a little less than a mile from the scene, said the woman called a friend from the gas station to come get her.
Iafrate said at least one of the car doors was unlocked, and that the vehicle started when they tested it, but cautioned that that was possible for a car that has been sitting for some time.
Complicating matters is a prior incident at the Redmond Target store two years ago, where the parents left the same child, then just a baby, sleeping in his car seat as the two shopped. An onlooker called police. Sky was left alone for nearly an hour.
The boy's father admits it was a stupid mistake and can't imagine how his ex could have done it again.
“Why is Julia out here at 8:50 a.m., especially in Bellevue, she lives all the way in Redmond. She has done something. I don't know what she has done,” Solomon Metalwala said.
Bellevue police would not comment on whether the parents' background was pertinent to this case, but said they are keeping all scenarios on the table.
"Right now we don't know. We can only go off what the mother told us," said Iafrate. "But we're going to search beyond that, and since we can't find the child right here in this area, we're going to be asking other questions."
Police would like to hear from anyone that may have travelled along 112th Ave N.E., between SR 520 and NE 24th Ave N.E., Sunday morning between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
The missing boy is half Asian Indian and half Caucasian, 2-foot-2 and 39 pounds with brown eyes, a dark buzzcut hair and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black and aqua blue sweatpants and white socks.
The car is a silver, 1998 Acura Integra three-door coupe.

Father of Missing Washington Toddler Says Estranged Wife Playing 'Some Kind of Game'
Published November 08, 2011

The father of a missing 2-year-old Washington state boy said he believes his estranged wife is "playing some kind of game" in the child's disappearance.
Sky Metalwala was reported missing Sunday morning after his mother, Julia Biryukova, discovered him missing from her car in Bellevue, Wash.
Biryukova told police that she had run out of gas and left the boy buckled into his car seat while she and her 4-year-old daughter walked to a Chevron gas station, about a mile away.
When the pair returned to the silver Acura an hour later, the 2-year-old boy was gone, she told authorities. The woman reportedly said that the car was not locked.

The child's father, Solomon Metalwala, told Fox affiliate KCPQ-TV that Biryukova suffers from mental illness and may be withholding information from authorities.
"I think this is some kind of game she's playing," Metalwala said. "I don't know. I don't know what she is thinking."
The couple is in a heated divorce battle, and in court papers in March Metalwala said of his wife: "She began to have dreams about killing our children, even telling me of her dreams about strangling our youngest child (Sky)," according to the station.
Biryukova, meanwhile, has accused Metalwala of domestic violence. She reportedly obtained a temporary protective order in June 2010, saying she feared for her and her children's safety.
Biryukova claimed that on Dec. 24, 2009, Solomon assaulted her with a set of car keys in front of the children, according to court documents.
The toddler is of Indian and Caucasian descent, with brown eyes and dark hair, according to police. He was reportedly last seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray-striped pants.
Biryukova was interviewed by detectives Sunday night, while the 4-year-old girl was being looked after by family members, according to the station.
Biryukova had previously been cited for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. In 2009, Redmond police cited Biryukova and Metalwala for leaving a child unattended in a vehicle. The case was dismissed after they agreed to probation, community service and a 10-week parenting class.
About 50 people, including police with tracking dogs, fanned out around the area Sunday in their hunt for the child, Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate told the station. The FBI has also joined the search.
Anyone with information on the boy's whereabouts is being urged to call 911.

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Investigators searched dumpsters Monday around the
home where a 2-year-old boy lived with his mother, who claims the
toddler disappeared from her unlocked car when she ran out of gas.

Bellevue police said there are many unanswered questions regarding
2-year-old Sky Metalawa's disappearance. The FBI is also assisting in
investigating the case.

Monday evening, Sky's father, Solomon Metewala, took a polygraph test
that came back inconclusive. His lawyer says Solomon was too tired to
give an accurate result and will take another test Tuesday to clear his
name.

Solomon Metewala said he has not seen his son in nearly a year due to
a custody dispute with his ex-wife, Julia Biryukova, Sky's mother.

Biryukova told police on Sunday morning she took her 4-year-old
daughter with her and left Sky in the car in the 2400 block of 112th Ave
N.E. When she came back about an hour later, she said Sky was gone.
Investigators said the boy's car seat was still in the car and there
were no signs of forced entry.

Search teams went door-to-door and combed an area roughly 20 city
blocks long on Sunday, Bellevue police said. Police suspended the
search in the wooded residential neighborhood around 6 p.m., but
continued to follow up on other leads, including questioning the mother
at headquarters.

"Search and rescue is confident that the child is nowhere in this area," said Carla Iafrate, Bellevue police.

The North Towne Chevron, a little less than a mile from the
scene, said the woman called a friend from the gas station to come get
her.

Iafrate said at least one of the car doors was unlocked, and that the
vehicle started when they tested it, but cautioned that that was
possible for a car that has been sitting for some time.

Complicating matters is a prior incident at the Redmond Target store
two years ago, where the parents left the same child, then just a baby,
sleeping in his car seat as the two shopped. An onlooker called
police. Sky was left alone for nearly an hour.

The boy's father admits it was a stupid mistake and can't imagine how his ex could have done it again.

“Why is Julia out here at 8:50 a.m., especially in Bellevue, she
lives all the way in Redmond. She has done something. I don't know what
she has done,” Solomon Metewala said.

Bellevue police would not comment on whether the parents' background
was pertinent to this case, but said they are keeping all scenarios on
the table.

"Right now we don't know. We can only go off what the mother told
us," said Iafrate. "But we're going to search beyond that, and since we
can't find the child right here in this area, we're going to be asking
other questions."

Police would like to hear from anyone that may have travelled along
112th Ave N.E., between SR 520 and NE 24th Ave N.E., Sunday morning
between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The missing boy is half Asian Indian and half Caucasian, 2-foot-2 and
39 pounds with brown eyes, a dark buzzcut hair and was last seen
wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black and aqua blue sweatpants and
white socks.

The car is a silver, 1998 Acura Integra three-door coupe.

Bellevue Police Department Release Details in Missing Toddler Case; Seek Witnesses

By Venice Buhain
4:23pm

The mother of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala told police she was taking the boy to a hospital because he was sick.
The Bellevue Police Department revealed new details Tuesday in the disappearance of 2-year-old Sky Metalwala of Redmond, who was reported missing Sunday morning.

Police said that after canvassing the Veloce Apartments in Redmond, the police found one neighbor who reported seeing the boy in the past two weeks.

Bellevue Police Department spokeswoman Carla Iafrate asked anyone who has seen Sky Metalwala, 2, or his mother, Julia Biryukova, in the past few weeks to call the police tip line at 425-452-2564.

Police also continue to ask people to call the tip line if they saw Biryukova's silver 1998 Acura Integra coupe parked in the 2600 block of 112th Avenue Northeast on Sunday morning between 7 and 10 a.m.

So far, the police have no suspects in the boy's disappearance. Biryukova told police that she was taking her son to Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue Sunday because he was ill, and she said she left him asleep in the car parked in the 2600 block of 112th Avenue Northeast when she went to get help after running out of gas, Iafrate said.

Biryukova and Sky's father, Solomon Metalwala, have been asked to submit to polygraph tests. Metalwala agreed to take a polygraph test while Biryukova has declined to do so, police said.

Metalwala's polygraph test was inconclusive, but his lawyer, Clay Terry, said that the results were skewed due to the stress of his child being missing and that he agreed to come in again on Tuesday to take the polygraph test.

Update: Bellevue Police Say Foul Play Suspected in Toddler's Disappearance

By Venice Buhain
11:47am

The missing boy's mother has declined to take a polygraph test, Bellevue Police told reporters Tuesday morning.

Editor's note: Bellevue Police revealed new details in the case at a 3:30 p.m. briefing Tuesday. Read an updated story here.

Foul play is one of the possibilities in the weekend disappearance of a 2-year-old boy from a car, Bellevue Police reported.

"We're now two days on and we haven't heard from him," said Bellevue Police spokesman Officer Seth Tyler.

Sky Metalwala's mother, Julia Biryukova, reported the toddler missing on Sunday morning, telling police she had left the boy unattended in her unlocked car after she ran out of gas in the 2600 block of 112th Avenue Northeast in Bellevue and walked to a gas station with her 4-year-old daughter.

Tyler said police continue to ask that people who may have been passing on the street where Sky disappeared, which is between State Route 520 and Northeast 24th Street and close to Interstate 405 and the Bellevue Montessori School, to call through the NORCOM dispatch center at 425-577-5656.

"We haven't received many tips at this time, which is why we encourage people to call," Tyler said. "We really would love for people to call, even if they think it was insignificant."

Police said they found no gas can near Biryukova's vehicle and that her car started right up. No sign of forced entry was found on the vehicle.

"We suspect foul play. Nothing about this story adds up," Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson told television reporters. (Click here to see raw video of Johnson's interview with reporters from KIRO TV.)

Neither parent has been named a suspect, and police have said both are cooperating with the investigation, though Johnson told reporters that Biryukova has refused to take a polygraph test.

"You’d think that someone that is as close to a family as a mother is would be willing to do anything and everything to solve this case," he told reporters.

Metalwala's father, Solomon Metalwala, took a polygraph test Monday evening but the results were inconclusive. His attorney said he would return to the Bellevue Police Station on Tuesday to take another round of tests.

Law enforcement officials spent much of Monday searching the area surrounding Biryukova's downtown Redmond apartment. Residents of the Veloce Apartments, where Biryukova lives, said FBI investigators went door to door asking neighbors about the family.

Details also surfaced Monday regarding Biryukova and Solomon Metalwala's troubled relationship. The couple began divorce proceedings in 2010 and each had accused the other of posing a threat to their two children.

In a 2010 protection order requested by Biryukova, the mother said her husband had been physically abusive toward her and had threatened to kill her if she sought custody of their children.

"The most recent (incidents) have been his threats to kill me if I say anything against him or if in any way I proceed with action of seeking custody of our two small children," Biryukova wrote in the protection order request, which has been obtained by Patch. "I live in constant fear of my life and my children's life."

For his part, Solomon Metalwala said Biryukova was battling a mental illness, was suicidal, and had dreams of harming her children.

"She began to have dreams about killing our children, even telling me of her dreams about strangling our youngest child," Metlawala said in a court document related to the couple's divorce that was filed in King County Superior Court and obtained by Patch.

Both parents were also cited in 2009 for leaving Sky, then just an infant, unattended in a vehicle.

SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA Empty Re: SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA

Post by TomTerrific0420 Wed Nov 09, 2011 3:13 pm

BELLEVUE, Wash. --
Frustrated police in Washington state said Tuesday that they were
working to trace the steps of a missing toddler's mother over the past
two weeks because her story about the boy's disappearance makes little
sense.

The woman, Julia Biryukova, told investigators that
her 2-year-old son, Sky Metalwala, vanished Sunday in Bellevue when she
left him sleeping alone in her unlocked car for an hour after it ran out
of gas. The 30-year-old claimed she and her 4-year-old daughter walked
to a gas station, and when they returned to the car, the boy was gone.
"Given the limited amount of information we have, the fact that
there's really no solid leads to follow up on in regard to where he
might be - absolutely, we suspect foul play," Police Maj. Mike Johnson
told reporters. "Nothing about the story adds up. Something else
happened."
When investigators questioned relatives, family friends and neighbors,
only Biryukova and the boy's sister reported seeing him in the past two
weeks, said Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate.
The girl told police Sunday that her brother had been in the car when
they left it, Iafrate said. A detective trained in questioning children
interviewed her again Monday, Iafrate said, but "nothing significant"
came out of it.
Detectives were working to collect
surveillance video from any place Biryukova may have been over the past
two weeks, Iafrate said. She has so far declined to take a polygraph
examination; neither she nor her lawyer returned calls or emails seeking
comment Monday and Tuesday.
Iafrate characterized Biryukova's interactions with police as "a certain level of cooperation."
Sky's disappearance came amid a bitter divorce and custody fight
between Biryukova and the boy's father, Solomon Metalwala. At a
mandatory mediation session last week, the parties reached a tentative
agreement that would allow Metalwala to have some visitation with Sky
and his older sister, said Metalwala's lawyer, Leslie Clay Terry III.
Investigators have invited the boy's relatives to take polygraph
tests in hopes of shaking loose any clues to his whereabouts.

Metalwala took one Monday night but it was inconclusive; he offered to
take another one Tuesday, but Iafrate did not immediately know whether
the second test took place.
Biryukova claimed she had been
driving to a Bellevue hospital because Sky wasn't feeling well when the
car ran out of gas, police said. The hospital wasn't the closest one to
her home in nearby Redmond, but she reportedly told detectives she
liked the Bellevue hospital better. It wasn't immediately clear what
might have been wrong with the boy.
If Sky was in fact left in the car, it wouldn't have been the first time.
When he was 3 months old, his parents left him in their SUV in a
Target parking lot for 55 minutes on a 27-degree day, court records
showed. The couple came out of the store to get Sky only after police
arrived and asked for the vehicle's owner to be paged.

Redmond police cited both parents for reckless endangerment in the
December 2009 incident. However, the case was dismissed early this year
after the pair completed a year of probation, 40 hours of community
service and a 10-week parenting class.
In court documents
filed in their divorce, Biryukova said their relationship deteriorated
in 2008 after they bought an expensive home in Kirkland and couldn't
keep up with the payments on that property and a condominium they owned.
The divorce case has been marked by back-and-forth protection
orders. She accused her husband of beating her and the children; he
alleged she had severe psychiatric problems that endangered them.
Terry said state Child Protective Services later conducted an investigation that cleared Metalwala.
Meanwhile, a social worker reported this year that a doctor found
Biryukova to be in good mental health and an appropriate caregiver for
the kids.

Mother of Missing Child Refuses Polygraph Test

By CHRISTINA CARON (@cdcaron)
Nov. 8, 2011
Julia Biryukova, mother of the 2-year-old toddler who went missing Sunday in Bellevue, Wash., has refused to take a lie detector test, police said today, and detectives are focusing their search on the area surrounding her Redmond apartment.

Biryukova told police she was driving her two children to Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue because her younger child, Sky Metalwala, wasn't feeling well. She said she ran out of gas on 112th Avenue, a two-way street that borders Interstate 520, so she and her 4-year-old daughter trekked about a mile to a nearby gas station, Northtowne Chevron Service, leaving Sky in the car.

Police said she then called a friend, who took her to her car about an hour later. But when they returned to the two-door silver Acura, Biryukova said, the boy was gone.

"We continue to invite her to take a polygraph and as of yet she has not taken one," said Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate, adding that Sky's mother did allow police to search her car and the inside of her home.

Biryukova is in the middle of a difficult divorce with her husband, Solomon Metalwala. He hasn't seen either of his two children in "several months," police said. Metalwala took a polygraph test Monday, but the results were inconclusive, something Iafrate said is "not unusual." He volunteered to take another test today.

SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA Ht_missing_toddler_sky_metalwala_nt_111107_wg Bellevue Police
Authorities in Washington state are searching for a missing 2-year-old Sky Metalwala from Bellevue.

Clay Terry, one of the attorneys representing Metalwala, was not immediately available for comment. But he told ABC News affiliate KOMO that his client is "exhausted" and hadn't slept much since his son disappeared.

The father of two has kept out of the spotlight, making one brief, soft-spoken public statement to reporters Monday outside his lawyer's office, saying, "Please just return him back, like I just said to the police officers, the hospitals and the fire department. Please."

Police have emphasized they aren't naming any suspects yet, but they do suspect "foul play."

"It's been over 48 hours and there's been nobody coming forward telling us where Sky is, so obviously foul play is under consideration here," Iafrate said.

So far, she said, family members have been cooperating with investigators.

According to The Associated Press, the couple had been together for 14 years. They married in 2003 and separated in 2010, the same year Biryukova, 30, filed for an order of protection for herself and her children, the AP reported. He was charged with leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle in 2009, in Redmond, Wash., a case that was eventually dismissed after he completed mandatory community service, paid a fine and completed a parenting class.

The Search for Sky Metalwala: Mother's Story Raises Questions

For now, more than 35 detectives from Bellevue, Redmond and the FBI are concentrating on the area surrounding the mother's home.

"We're going to search everything around the area of her home because that's the last place Sky was prior to being in the car," said Iafrate today.

They are also doing forensic work on Biryukova's car, and removing the gas tank to find out how much gas it contains.

Biryukova, who lives in Redmond, could have driven her son to a hospital closer to her home, Iafrate said, but instead felt more comfortable going to the hospital in Overlake.

A gas can wasn't found in Biryukova's car, a detail that "could mean a lot of things," Bellevue police spokeswoman Iafrate told ABCNews.com Monday.

Her car showed no sign of forced entry, according to police, who stopped searching the wooded area near the car Sunday evening.

When Iafrate spoke to Biryukova on Sunday evening, "she was quite calm at that time and concerned."

"Over the years that I've been an officer, I'm struck by how people react to a stressful situation and there are many different reactions to stress. Some people are calm and some are hysterical," she said.

A 'Frustrating' Case

"There's not been a whole lot of progress in the investigation, and as you well know, that's really frustrating to us as well," Iafrate told reporters today. "So far we have only been able to locate one person who has seen Sky in the last two weeks and that was a neighbor."

Although one tipster called police after seeing Biryukova's car on the side of the road during the same time period police were notified that Sky was missing, the tipster said nobody was in the car.

Attempts by police to question Biryukova's 4-year-old, who is currently in protective custody, also failed to turn up any clues. She said her brother Sky was in the car.

"I'm hoping that someone's going to call us on a tip line and tell us something that's going to lead us to Sky," said Iafrate. "We're going to work day and night until we can solve the mystery."

Police are erecting three billboards to solicit tips from the public.

"Even if you think you didn't see anything, doesn't matter; we want to hear from you if you were on that road at that time," Iafrate said.

Searching for Sky Metalwala

Sky is half Indian and half Caucasian, with brown eyes and dark buzz-cut hair. He was last seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt with blue and gray striped Carter's pants, the same outfit he's pictured in above.

Anyone who sees a child matching this description is asked to call 911 immediately. Police are urging anyone who might have traveled along 112th Ave N.E., between I-520 and NE 24th Ave N.E., Sunday morning between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to call Bellevue, Wash., police at 425-577-5656 or email pdtipline@bellevue.wa.gov.

SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA Empty Re: SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA

Post by kiwimom Thu Nov 10, 2011 10:50 pm

BELLEVUE, Wash. -- Investigators are focusing on Julia Biryukova's
car as they continue to search for clues in the case of Biryukova's
missing two-year-old son, Sky Metalwala.

At a Thursday morning press conference, Bellevue Police Department Maj.
Mike Johnson said investigators are testing the car Biryukova was
driving Sunday when she said it ran out of gas, prompting her to leave
Sky alone in the car.

The car, a silver 1998 Acura Integra, is at the police department's
secure vehicle lab, Johnson said. It will be taken for a test drive so
investigators can determine if any mechanical problems would have caused
it to stop running on Sunday. On Wednesday, Johnson said police found a
"sufficient amount of gas" in the car, enough to run it "for a
considerable distance."

Johson continued to stress that police want more cooperation from
Biryukova. "Our goal is to find Sky, and we believe Julie holds the key
to that."

Biryukova is answering police questions through her attorney, and she has declined repeated requests that she take a polygraph.

A source close to Biryukova told KING 5 that Biryukova left both her
children unattended last Thursday when Biryukova attended a lengthy
divorce mediation session with Metalwala.

Asked when police would require Biryukova to answer questions directly,
Johnson said, "It wouldn't be an issue of forcing an interview. We would
extend the invitation just as we did before through her attorney and
ask her to cooperate."

Johnson also emphasized that Sky's mother is not a suspect or person of interest at this time.

"At what point does Julia become a person of interest or a suspect, or
anyone in the case for that matter?" Johnson said rhetorically. "[I[t's a
question that I have as well and we're going to talk about today and
get our heads around that issue," he added.

Johnson also revealed that police searched a storage locker at
Biryukova's apartment complex but found nothing. He said police remain
focused on the apartment and the area where Biryukova said she left Sky
in the car. "We don't have any evidence to suggest Sky is anywhere other
than" at or near the partment or where the car was, Johnson said.

And Johnson said a "close friend" of Biryukova's took a polygraph test and was eliminated as a suspect.

Meanwhile, Solomon Metalwala told KING 5 that he believes Sky is
still alive and that he does not believe Biryukova's account of how the
boy went missing.

Metalwala also confirmed he will undergo a second polygraphy today at
Bellevue Police Headquarters. Metalwala sat for a polygraph on Monday,
but the results were inconclusive, a result Metalwala's attorney blamed
on fatigue and stress.

Frustration with Biryukova

At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Johnson was more direct about investigators' frustration with Biryukova.

“The story doesn’t add up, the whereabouts of Sky are unknown, the
mother’s story is falling apart day to day, and her lack of cooperation
so far in regard to providing more information proactively and [not]
submitting to a polygraph, doesn’t help," Johnson said.

And even as he characterized Biryukova's level of cooperation with the
investigation as being "very high," Johnson said Wednesday that "the
information that she’s given us has been problematic and has created
more questions than answers."

TIPLINE: 425-452-2564

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have traveled along 112th
Ave N.E., between SR 520 and NE 24th Ave N.E., Sunday morning between 7
a.m. and 10 a.m.

The missing boy is half South Asian and Caucasian, 2-foot-2 and 39
pounds with brown eyes, a dark buzzcut hair and was last seen wearing a
gray hooded sweatshirt and black and aqua blue sweatpants and white
socks.

The car Biryukova drove is a silver 1998 Acura Integra three-door coupe.

Anyone who saw these people or this vehicle on November 6 is asked to call (425) 452-2564 or email pdtipline@bellevuewa.gov.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of a two-year-old
Washington boy said his mother's account of what happened is strikingly
similar to an episode of "Law & Order: SVU." Sky Metalwala
was reported to have disappeared Sunday from a parked car in the
northwestern area of Bellevue, Wash., police said.
His mother,
Julia Biryukova, told police that she was driving her sick son to a
hospital when she ran out of gas. She claimed she left the boy buckled
into his car seat, sleeping, while she and her four-year-old daughter
walked to a Chevron gas station, about a mile away. When the two
returned to the unlocked car, the child was gone, according to
Biryukova.
But police said Biryukova's story "doesn't add up,"
and is very similar to an episode of "Law & Order: SVU," which aired
a day before the child disappeared.
"I've heard about the 'Law
and Order: SVU' episode that has great similarity to this case. I heard
that it aired Saturday, the day before the disappearance of Sky,"
Bellevue Police Maj. Mike Johnson told reporters Thursday.
"I
know that there are several folks up in the operations center of the
command post that have taken a look at that episode, and have commented
that it is strikingly similar in nature," Johnson said.
A police
spokesman earlier revealed the car was not out of gas and the vehicle
started when officers arrived at the scene. He also said surveillance
video footage did not back up Biryukova's version of events.
Solomon
Metalwala, who is embroiled in a bitter divorce and custody dispute
with Biryukova, had not seen either of his children for "several
months."
Biryukova has so far refused to take a lie detector
test, according to authorities. The child's father, Solomon Metalwala,
is expected to take a second polygraph test after the first one was
ruled inconclusive.
In court documents, Metalwala said his wife
suffers from mental illness and had dreams about killing the couple's
children, according to Fox affiliate KCPQ-TV.
Biryukova has accused Metalwala of domestic violence, claiming he assaulted her in front of the children in December 2009.
Police
have said they suspect foul play in the disappearance of Sky, who is of
Indian and Caucasian descent with brown eyes and dark hair. He was last
seen wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt and blue and gray-striped
pants, according to his mother.

SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA Empty Re: SKY METALWALA - 2 yo/Male - Bellevue/ Spokane WA

OK so what do we really know so far?
a) Mom is Looney Tunes to the point of cleaning the toilet before and after every urination. She would clean the house 6-7 hours a day and would only vacuum in straight lines so as not to miss anything.
b) She has already said in the past that she wanted to strangle Sky
c) There was more than enough gas in the car to continue on her journey to get Sky to the hospital (Hidden message that he needed medical assistance?)
d) Nobody other than her (and his sister?) saw Sky for at least 2 weeks prior
e) She was in a very messy (I used that word for a reason) divorce / custody battle with the Dad

CONCLUSION: People with OCD to the max, like her, HATE messes. Sky was a male and looked eerily like his father, even at that young age.
Boys are inherently messier than girls. Start adding now...
Messy Boy+Looks like Father+Fighting with Father = No more Sky
