ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - A state judge has ordered a
psychiatric examination of 17-year-old accused of stabbing an
8-year-old boy and slashing his throat.
District Attorney Sam D'Aquilla says the case is on hold until
that is in.
Defense attorney Lewis Unglesby has entered a plea of "not
guilty by reason of insanity" for the youth, who was 16 when
Jackson "Jack" Attuso of Clinton was killed June 10.
Court papers say a search of his home found DVDs of "Dexter,"
a cable TV series about a serial killer who kills other killers.
The warrant application says the youth walked up to construction
workers on June 10, asked them to call 911, and said he had just
stabbed someone. It says that when asked why, the youth said,
"Because he was the first one there."
Unglesby is not seeking bail.

ST. FRANCISVILLE- A state district judge has issued an order setting an April 30 trial for a teenager accused of killing an 8-year-old boy last year.
On Thursday, Judge William G. Carmichael also set a Dec. 8 hearing for any pre-trial motions that may be unresolved.
The Advocate reports 18-year-old Trevor Reese is accused of first-degree murder in the June 10, 2010, throat-slashing slaying of Jackson D. Attuso of Clinton.
The victim was part of a group including his mother, brothers and family friends - all riding bicycles - when he was attacked.
Defense attorney Lewis Unglesby entered a "not guilty by reason of insanity" plea on Reese's behalf last year.

Trevor Reese
Jackson Attuso
ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A 16-year-old accused of stabbing an 8-year-old boy to death last week was indicted for first-degree murder by a grand jury Thursday. The Bill of Indictment states Reese allegedly committed the offense of 1st degree murder, in that he killed a human being when he had specific intent to kill or inflict great bodily harm upon a victim who is under the age of twelve years.
"I don't think there's going to be an issue of responsibility. I think there will be an issue of what is his competency and his understanding of his mental status," said Reese's attorney, Lewis Unglesby.
Trevor Reese will not face the possibility of the death penalty because of his age.
Reese was not in court for the hearing.
If convicted, he will receive an automatic life sentence.
His arraignment is scheduled for June 24.
The teen was arrested by the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office last Thursday and has been held without bond since then.
Reese is accused of killing Jackson Attuso, 8, of Clinton in The Bluffs subdivision in West Feliciana Parish on June 10.
According to authorities, Reese stabbed Attuso to death while the young boy was riding his bike through the woods with his mother.
He was expected to make a court appearance Wednesday morning for a bond hearing, but a move by his attorney changed that plan.
Unglesby filed paperwork late Tuesday afternoon requesting no bond be set.
A judge has ruled Reese can be tried as an adult in the case.
He turns 17 in July.

ST. FRANCISVILLE — Baton Rouge Magnet High School student Trevor Reese had a fascination with the protagonist in the television series “Dexter,” seeing the serial killer presented as a hero and Robin Hood figure, several medical professionals testified Thursday in Reese’s sentencing hearing.
Twentieth Judicial District Judge William G. Carmichael concluded the hearing Thursday by sentencing Reese, now 20, to life in prison without the benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence for the June 2010 murder of 8-year-old Jackson “Jack” Attuso, of Clinton.
“He committed murder in the false belief and delusion that he was a serial killer,” said Dr. Robert Davis, a psychologist.
