BAY CITY, Texas - Bay City is the kind of small town where everyone
knows each other, and Jonnie Montalbo hopes someone in town knows where
to find her 14-year-old daughter.
"I can't breathe," she said
through tears. "(I cry) the moment I open my eyes. I can't sleep, and I
can't eat without knowing my daughter is safe."
Her daughter,
Bethany Huerta, disappeared Nov. 9. Bay City Police say the 9th grader
may have run away with a 24-year-old man she met at church.
Surveillance video shows the man picking Bethany up from a convenience store shortly after she disappeared last week.
Thomas Juan Cabrales is not a suspect, but investigators are calling him a person of interest.
Bethany's dad calls him her boyfriend.
"He was supposed to come in last Friday to talk to detectives, but he never showed up," Lt. Andrew Lewis Jr. said.
When
asked if a 24-year-old man had any business being with a 14-year-old
girl, Noah Huerta, Bethany's dad said, “No. Not at all. She's only 14."
Lewis said, here in Texas, Bethany is one year too old for investigators to trigger an Amber alert.
"If she had been 13 and under, even if she left voluntarily, she still could've been eligible for an Amber Alert," he said.
Instead, her parents sit and wait. It’s been six days since Bethany took off, bailing on school and her family.
Her
parents say suddenly those fights they had over her messy room, Jersey
Shore posters, and late nights on the phone don't seem like such big
deals.
"We love her," Huerta said. "We miss her. Thanksgiving won't be the same without her."

"Bethany, I just want you home," her mom said. "I love you, my baby. She's my little baby. I want her home safe."

BAY CITY, Texas - US Marshals have located a missing 14-year-old girl and her 24-year-old companion out of Bay City.
Bethany Huerta ran away from home with Thomas Juan Cabrales, a man she met at church, Baytown Police say.
Authorities found Huerta and Cabrales in Pasadena, Texas around 2:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Cabrales was arrested and charged with enticing a child.
Huerta was taken back to Bay City and reunited with her family.
