Christiansburg, VA – Police have arrested a woman in connection with a child's death last Friday.


Brandy Lytton Acord, 29, was charged with one
count of felony child neglect. Officials are holding Acord with no bond
at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.

Acord was taking care of a 10-month-old boy at her house November 18 when the boy died around 11:30 a.m.

Police are still investigating, and additional charges will be evaluated after results from an autopsy come out.

The 10-month-old infant found dead Friday in Christiansburg was left
unattended for at least an hour and was purple in color, according to a
search warrant filed in the Montgomery County Circuit Court clerk's
office.
The information was gathered during interviews with the
child's caretaker, who was arrested and charged with felony child
neglect in relation to the death.
Brandy Lytton Acord, 29, of
Christiansburg, was being held without bond Tuesday at the Western
Virginia Regional Jail, according to police.
Christiansburg
spokeswoman Becky Wilburn said police were called Friday at 11:32 a.m.,
while Acord was baby-sitting the baby boy in her home in the 100 block
of West Windmill Ridge Road. Police and rescue squad members performed
CPR, but the boy was unresponsive, Wilburn said. He was taken to
LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, where he was pronounced dead.
The death was described as suspicious by police on Friday, and on Monday the charges against Acord were announced.
According
to the search warrant, Acord placed the 911 call from a cellphone and
told police that the child she baby-sits had turned purple and was dead.
Acord told police she found the boy under a bed wrapped in a blanket,
according to the warrant.
A police officer and a medical
examiner's office investigator reported a bruise on the boy's head,
according to the warrant, and a police sergeant said he was told by
Acord that she "pulled the boy's arm" earlier in the day, and in the
past had not told the child's parents about instances in which he fell
from the couch and the bed.
Using the search warrant, police
removed from the home a cellphone, two baby blankets, a car seat, a
pacifier, a guitar and case, miscellaneous paperwork and handwritten
notes, measurements of a room, and photos of the house, inside and out.
A conviction on the charge Acord faces can carry from one to 10 years in prison.
Wilburn
said police aren't releasing new information at this time but
additional charges are possible pending the outcome of an autopsy.
