2 Baby deaths in Chicago; "Newborn John" JOHNSON and ALYSIA KNOWLES - 2 Months
State officials are investigating the parents of
two infants who died in separate incidents Sunday night, including a
day-old boy found in a trash bin in Country Club Hills.
The Department of Children and Family Services is
investigating an allegation of abuse against the mother of the boy,
identified as Baby Boy Johnson, who was found outside 17895 Huntleigh
Court at 8:17 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s
office. An autopsy on Monday was inconclusive, the office said.
DCFS spokesman Kendall Marlowe said the agency is
investigating an allegation of abuse against the mother, who is 13, but
has had no prior contact with the family. Two other children have been
removed from the home.
It’s unclear whether the mother suffered a miscarriage or whether any foul play was involved, Marlowe said.
DCFS is also investigating an allegation of
neglect against the father of two-month-old Alysia Knowles, who died at
8:43 p.m. from unknown causes on the 10700 block of South Perry in
Roseland.
An autopsy was conducted Monday but results are pending further study.
Marlowe said DCFS has had no prior contact with the family.
