Where’s Casey Anthony? It’s no use asking Jose Baez

“We’re breaking Casey Anthony news,” WESH-Channel 2 anchor Jim Payne announced this afternoon. “WESH2 has spotted a member of Team Casey at the church where she’s rumored to be laying low.”
That church is in Palm City in Martin County, which must come as a relief to all the other counties in Florida. But there was no definitive information about Anthony.
The big news today, however, came from Cheney Mason, who confirmed to “In Session” that Jose Baez is no longer representing Anthony.
“His job ended on the day of her sentencing,” Mason told Jean Casarez of “In Session.”
Baez’s exit from the case had been rumored for weeks. Cheney told Casarez that he and Lisabeth Fryer represent Casey in her appeal and with her probation.
Central Florida stations turned to Anthony’s whereabouts this evening. WESH’s Bob Kealing tried to question that Anthony team member, private investigator Jerry Lyons. But Lyons was just putting up no-trespassing signs and ignoring Kealing. Even so, Kealing saw Lyons’ presence as evidence that Anthony was at the church, although the reporter didn’t see Anthony.
WKMG-Channel 6’s Louis Bolden said the man bore a striking resemblance to Lyons and refused to make any comment. “But he placed several, several no trespassing signs up and down the edge of the church’s property,” Bolden said.
Bolden speculated that Anthony could be at the church, although there was speculation that she departed last night when several vehicles left the property.
Anthony is serving a year’s probation somewhere in Florida for check fraud. In July, she was acquitted of murder in the 2008 death of her daughter, Caylee. Anthony’s life and whereabouts have been mysteries since she left the Orange County Jail in the summer. But she talked about herself and sported several new looks in video-diary clips that recently hit the Internet.
The church minister hasn’t talked either, but Kealing noted that the pastor tweeted last night, “Please pray for my family and I tonight.”
With no Casey, no minister and no Anthony team members talking, reporters turned to people in the street. WOFL-Channel 35 found two protesters holding a sign, “Hide your kids.” WKMG found several people who were ticked off by the possibility Anthony could be in Palm City. WKMG found a protester with the sign “Casey Anthony, you are not wanted here.” Yet Bolden also found a woman who said that if anyone can help Anthony, the church’s pastor could.
Is there anyone who can help Anthony land a big interview? Casarez of “In Session” reported that the attorney for Private Elevator Productions has not heard back from attorney Mason about a $1 million offer to Anthony.
It doesn’t sound as if Mason will be calling. He told Casarez: “No one with any authority is attempting to promote Casey Anthony … They are unsolicited and doing it on their own.”
Mason added that any Anthony negotiations will start after her appeal has ended and her probation has concluded.
