CARMELO ORTIZ-HALL - 2 yo/ Accused: Nyesha Hall-Gonzalez - El Paso Cty CO
EL PASO COUNTY, COLO. -- New information is released about the mother accused of leaving her toddler alone near I-25 over the weekend.
Twenty eight-year-old Nyesha Hall-Ggonzalez was arrested on Saturday.
She has been charged with child abuse and attempted first degree murder.
Law enforcement officials became suspicious after Hall-Gonzalez was spotted
walking barefoot in her nightgown near the railroad tracks at I-25 and mile marker 119.
"There was some concern about her physical and emotional state," Sgt. Mike Schaller with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said. "While we were out the state patrol arrived
on scene and said a few hours earlier they were out with her and she
had a small child, but there was no child with her at the time."
That is when deputies and troopers began to question Hall-Gonzalez about her
son, who was later identified as two-year-old Carmelo Ortiz-Hall.
Schaller said at that point Hall-Gonzalez became uncooperative, and search teams were called out to look for the toddler.
"So a great collaborative search effort resulted in one of our K-9s finding the child safe and sound," Schaller said.
According to Hall-Gonzalez's arrest warrant, she left Carmelo alone in some bushes.
As for where he was found, the document said the child was in a ditch east of I-25 underneath four feet of tumbleweeds.
It also states he was only wearing a diaper, and was wrapped in a coat and dress.
"The potential for a horrific ending was very possible in this situation,
but fortunately this was a case where that did not happen," Schaller said.
When asked why she left her son alone in the cold,
Hall-Gonzalez told detectives she was going to kill her child because no
one would want him after she killed herself.
The warrant also said Hall-Gonzalez and her husband were going to get a
divorce because she had been cheating on him among other things.
It said the couple has another child together, an infant, who was not with Hall-Gonzalez on Saturday.

I hope both children are taken away from this sick woman and placed in a safe loving home forever. She needs to be sterilized so she doesn't have any more children to kill. Some people are so darn selfish.

Hours before deputies found 2-year-old Carmelo Ortiz-Hall in a southern El Paso County field Saturday, his mother wrapped the diaper-clad toddler in her coat and a dress, buried him under 4 feet of tumbleweeds and left him to die, court documents say.
When he asked her to stay, “she told Carmelo she had to leave,” according to court documents.
Nyesha Hall-Gonzalez was arrested Saturday on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder and child abuse. In court Monday, she was advised of her possible charges. She is being held at the El Paso County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The arrest affidavit depicts an unemotional woman who assumed she had killed her child hours before he was found healthy and unharmed.
According to the affidavit, Hall-Gonzalez was going through a divorce and had told a friend Friday night that she planned to kill herself and Carmelo because “no one would want him after she killed herself.”
She did not plan on killing her infant child who was with her husband on Saturday.
Saturday morning, Hall-Gonzalez was spotted about 7:45 a.m. by a Colorado State Patrol trooper who saw her holding a toddler near mile marker 119 on Interstate 25, just north of the Pueblo County line. Then at 10:15 a.m. deputies were told that there was a woman wearing a nightgown wandering in the area. Deputies arrived to find she had child items in her vehicle, but no child.
When El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies questioned Hall-Gonzalez about the whereabouts of her son, she said he was already dead.
“You must already know he is deceased because you have a cadaver dog,” she told deputies, referring to the police dog Axel, who was brought to the scene to find the boy.
About 12:20 p.m. she admitted that she had left Carmelo, wrapped in her coat, in bushes. When she noticed the time she said he was “probably deceased by now,” according to court documents.
The dog Axel and his handler, Deputy Mark Miller, found Carmelo about 1 p.m. The toddler had minor scratches to his legs.
