The PAZ Children - 13-10-8 yo/ Accused: Imelda Paz - Red Bank/ Asbury Park NJ
RED BANK — A Leighton Avenue woman is accused of abusing her three children over five years, including partially stuffing her son in a bag and throwing him down a flight of stairs, according to the authorities.
The mother, Imelda Paz, has been charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault and is also being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities as an illegal immigrant.
The 36-year-old was arrested on Feb. 7 after an investigation by Red Bank Police Detective Joey Fields revealed years of abuse of her children on “several occasions when the accused disciplined the victims,” Lt. Eliot Ramos said. The abuse occurred between 2007 and the last reported incident on Jan. 27 inside the family’s Leighton Avenue home and a previous address in Long Branch, he said.
In one instance, Paz struck her 13-year-old son in the face with an open hand, hit him with a belt and, according to Ramos, put the boy in a plastic bag, tied it up by his legs and threw him down a set of stairs. In a reported Jan. 27 incident, Paz choked her 10-year-old, according to a complaint. She is also accused of choking her 8-year-old daughter that day, another complaint shows.
Paz is being held in the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, on $185,000 bail with no option to post ten percent, but with an added no bail ICE detainer.
The police declined to release her photo.
