Poster's Note: These are not accidental injuries. They are the result of abuse. There is no reason to suspect otherwise.

Connecticut state police are investigating a
possible child abuse case after a 20-month-old boy was brought to a
hospital with a fractured skull, broken left arm and other injuries.

State police announced the investigation this week. They say the boy's
biological mother brought him to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in
Torrington on Friday and claimed he was in the custody of her estranged
husband when he was injured.

Troopers haven't released the parents' names. Police say they executed
search warrants at locations in Torrington and New Hartford and
interviewed several witnesses. No arrests have been made.

The boy was transferred to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. His condition isn't clear.

State child welfare officials were called in and are taking care of a second child involved in the case.

Possible child abuse case under investigation by state police

Monday, February 20, 2012

TORRINGTON — After being alerted to a possible child abuse incident by an emergency room doctor at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Connecticut State Police have opened an investigation into the case.

On Feb. 17 at 4:57 p.m., the doctor contacted State Police Troop B in Canaan with his suspicions, according to a press release from the Connecticut State Police.

According to the release, a 20-month-old male child was brought to Charlotte Hungerford by the child’s biological mother.

The mother reported that the child was in the custody of her estranged husband when the injuries occurred. The physician said the child sustained multiple injuries including a fractured skull, fractured left arm, contusions, and abrasions. Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was transferred by Lifestar to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford.

State Police Detectives began an investigation into the allegations made by the child’s mother. Troopers
determined a possible location in New Hartford where the abused was reported to have possibly taken place, according to the release.

Troopers also determined a possible second location in Torrington related to the investigation. Troopers from Troop B. along with State Police Detectives assisted by Torrington Police, have initiated an extensive criminal investigation into this case, the release said.

Detectives have located and interviewed several witnesses in this case.

Information was provided that caused troopers to apply for and obtain two search and seizure warrants from Superior Court. Two locations — one in Torrington and one in New Hartford — have been searched by State Police detectives, who were again assisted by Torrington Police.

The Connecticut Department of Children and Families is assisting in the care of a second child in the case.

The identity of the injured child has not been released and the criminal investigation continues.
