Poster's Note: I am placing this story here as I can do the math. 45 / 8 = 5.625. That means that each employee was responsible to watch 5+ children
4 or more on a slow day. Whatever. How do you let a baby like this get out of your sight? Who has an open pool near where infants and babies are running around? Somebody here is going to be charged.

Michigan Road just before 2 p.m.Police said a boy in day care at the church was found in about two feet of water in the uncovered pool.He was taken to St. Vincent Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The boy was later identified as Juan Cardenas.Homicide
investigators, child abuse detectives and Child Protective Services

not suspect foul play. The day care employs eight employees and cares for between 30 and 45 children.Christine Johnson Cantrell said she was shocked to learn of the death when she picked up from 6-year-old son from the day care."I've never had a problem here. Not one time," she said. "I feel really bad for the family."

Indianapolis police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy Wednesday after they were told that he was found submerged in a baptismal pool at a church on Indianapolis' Northwestside.

Authorities identified the boy as Juan Cardenas.

The cause of the boy's death will be determined after an autopsy scheduled for this morning, according to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

According to police, a therapist had arrived to begin a session with the boy at Praise Fellowship Assembly of God, 6700 Michigan Road, but he could not be found. So she asked employees to help look for him.

Employees told officers they found the child in water about 2 feet deep in the baptismal pool and called for help, said officer Kendale Adams, an IMPD spokesman.

The investigation into the circumstances that led to the boy's death continued late Wednesday.

Adams said the boy attended the day-care center at the church. He was found about 1:45 p.m. and taken to St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital, where he died a short time later, police said.

Baptismal pools generally hold water for Christian baptisms and vary in size and shape. For the Christian faith, Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, a holy day marking the Lenten season of 40 days leading up to Easter.

The day-care center has about eight employees and cares for 30 to 45 children of various ages, according to an IMPD news release. Authorities do not suspect the boy was a crime victim but said the investigation continues, the release said.

Investigators from IMPD's Homicide and Child Abuse Units are investigating, with the assistance of Child Protective Services.

Praise Fellowship leaders did not respond to telephone messages seeking comment by late Wednesday.

A report on the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's website of an inspection at the day-care center in November found some deficiencies, including that several employees were missing documentation of current universal precautions training, which include direct day-care providers completing a first-aid course every three years and fire evacuation training.

The inspection also found that several employees were missing criminal history background checks by the police.

INDIANAPOLIS -
A local church day care will be closed the rest of the week as police investigate the death of a one-year-old boy.

Police say the boy drowned in the baptismal pool at the Praise Fellowship Assembly of God Church on Michigan Road near West 67th Street.

The last inspection by the Family and Social Services Agency was just three months ago. Inspectors found 18 various health and safety violations.

Several employees were missing criminal history checks. Also, there was no documentation of checking for child abuse or neglect for employees.

All day care centers are inspected by the state, but the majority of day care ministries fall under different guidelines than non-religious centers.

State records show the church daycare where a toddler drowned in a baptismal pool was cited for more than a dozen violations last year.
The Praise Fellowship Assembly of God's daycare will be closed for the rest of the week after a one-year-old boy drowned Wednesday.

The daycare was cited for 18 violations last November, including caretakers without criminal background checks, dirty cribs, bottles not properly stored and televisions in dangerous places where they could tip over on children.

Police believe the toddler wandered off from the daycare in the church, and was later found in two feet of water.

"We have our homicide investigators here, along with members of our child abuse team and Child Protective Services here trying to determine how the child actually got there," says Kendale Adams of the Indianapolis Police Department.

So far no charges have been filed.

In
February, day care workers at the Praise Fellowship Assembly of God
Church found Juan Cardenas floating in about 2 feet of water in an
uncovered pool.Criminal charges were not filed in the boy’s death and detectives said they found no evidence of criminal wrong doing.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry decided against filing charges after reviewing the case with police detectives. On Monday, the child’s parents, Juan Gabriel Cardenas and Maricela Serna filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the day care.Cardenas said he didn’t understand why there weren’t any arrests made in the investigation.“People
get arrested all of the time for leaving their children in a car and
running into a store, even if it is for a few minutes and no one gets
hurt. I dropped off my son at day care and never saw him alive again.
They are supposed to be watching him. He fell in a pool of water and
died. How come one was arrested, “Cardenas said in a statement.Following the boy’s death, Indiana child advocacy groups have pushed for stricter day care laws.
