DARLENE ROGERS - 2 Months - Mount Zion/ Charleston WV
February 23, 2012
Two Calhoun County parents were arrested Wednesday and charged in the death of their 2-month-old daughter.
Ashley N. Kreh, 21, of Mount Zion, was charged with child abuse resulting in death, and Ordie J. Rogers, 30, was charged with child neglect resulting in death in connection, both in connection with the death of 2-month-old Darlene Rogers, according to criminal complaints on file in Calhoun County Magistrate Court.
Both were in Central Regional Jail on Thursday: Kreh in lieu of $750,000 bond and Rogers on a $300,000 bond.
According to the criminal complaints, Rogers and Kreh took their daughters to Roane General Hospital just after midnight on Feb. 17 after she had trouble breathing and became unresponsive. The couple originally told hospital staff the girl might have been injured when Ordie Rogers made an emergency stop to avoid hitting a deer.
However, Kreh later told State Police Cpl. J.A. Bowles of the Grantsville detachment that she shook the baby and accidentally hit the infant's head on the side of her crib on Feb. 15, according to the criminal complaints.
Kreh allegedly told Bowles she was angry because Rogers didn't get her anything for Valentine's Day. She said she didn't tell anyone about her daughter hitting her head because she was afraid she would get in trouble, according to the criminal complaints.
Ordie Rogers allegedly told Bowles that he first noticed something was wrong with the girl on the evening of Feb. 16. Rogers allegedly told Bowles he decided to take the infant to the doctor, but the trooper noted three hours elapsed between the time Rogers first noticed something was wrong and the time he arrived at the hospital, according to the criminal complaints.
According to the criminal complaints, doctors at Roane General Hospital soon noticed swelling around Darlene Rogers' brain, and almost immediately had her transferred by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was declared brain dead at about 1 p.m. Feb. 19.
According to the criminal complaints, an autopsy showed that Darlene Rogers had died of blunt force trauma to the skull.
If convicted, Kreh faces 10 to 40 years in prison. Rogers faces three to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - A Calhoun County woman accused in the death of her baby told State Police she was angry when she harmed the little girl because her boyfriend didn't get her a Valentine's Day gift.
Ashley Kreh, 21, and Ordie Rogers Jr., 30, both of Mt. Zion were arrested Wednesday.
Their 3-month-old daughter, Darlene Marie Rogers, was pronounced dead Sunday at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
The mother was charged with child abuse resulting in death, and the father with child neglect resulting in death.
The infant's body was examined at the office of the state Medical Examiner in Morgantown where it was determined she suffered intracranial bleeding and a skull fracture. The cause was found to be blunt force trauma to the head, according to a complaint filed in Calhoun Magistrate Court.
Calhoun County Prosecutor Rocky Holmes said the state would prosecute the couple to the "fullest extent" and the case would be presented to a grand jury, which could return more charges.
"I intend to show that the mother tortured this child to death and in her greatest hour of need her father neglected to do anything, and because of that we have a dead 3-month-old and that shouldn't have happened," Holmes said.
"They have no defense for what they did to this child."
The couple arrived with the infant at Roane General Hospital about 12:30 a.m. last Friday.
Physicians noted the baby was in severe respiratory distress. Soon after the child was admitted, doctors noticed swelling around her brain and immediately decided to have her flown to Ruby.
Cpl. J.A. Bowles from the Grantsville detachment went to Ruby to investigate. He met with Sgt. A.W. Scott, an investigator with the State Police Crimes Against Children Unit.
"It could have been an accident at home," Bowles said. "You don't know what it was, but once you start asking questions, you talk to the doctors and others involved in case.
He "spoke to the doctors about the type of injuries the child had - whether that was consistent with statements being given by individuals involved," he said. "And if they're not consistent, then you try to find out why."
The mother told doctors at Roane General the child may have been hurt as Rogers was driving to the hospital and stopped suddenly to miss a deer.
Hours later at Ruby, she told Scott that on Feb. 15 - three days earlier - she had been "frustrated when she picked the victim up by the arms with the victim facing her and she maybe put the victim back down in the crib harder than normal," according to the complaint.
She said she saw Darlene's head hit the top edge of the wooden crib.
She later told troopers she "was angry that (Rogers) did not get her anything or say anything to her for Valentine's Day," according to the complaint.
Kreh said she didn't tell Rogers what happened because "it was just one time" and she "did not figure it would hurt the victim," according to the complaint. She also said she was scared Rogers "would think wrong of her."
She said she got worried when Darlene began showing signs of injury and feared she may have caused it. She didn't immediately take the baby to the hospital because she was afraid the doctors would see bruises she had caused by squeezing the baby too hard while holding her, the complaint said.

Sounds like this poor baby suffered for days as that hands of this POS selfish witch. I wish they would sterilize her and that idiot husband as these asshats should never had kids again. I hope they are both prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for torturing and neglecting that sweet baby.

Four people have been indicted for murder by a special grand jury in Calhoun County. On
Tuesday, Calhoun County Prosecuting Attorney Rocky Holmes empaneled a
special grand jury that returned indictment on four people for three
murders.
Ashley Kreh and Ordie Rogers were indicted on one count
each of murder in the second-degree and child abuse or neglect resulting
death.
William "Seth" Denmark was indicted on one count of murder, related to the disappearance of David Beach.
Thomas Husk was indicted on one count of murder for the shooting death of John Cyrus.
A fifth man, Robert Taylor Jr. of Clay was indicted on one count of first-degree sexual assault.
A message left for Holmes was not returned.
Kreh,
21 of Mt. Zion and 30-year-old Rogers, of Chloe were indicted in the
death of the couple's 2-month-old daughter, Darlene Rogers. The pair was
arrested in February by the Calhoun County detachment of the West
Virginia State Police.
Kreh has been indicted on one count of
murder in the second degree and one count of child abuse resulting in
death. Rogers has been indicted on one count of murder in the second
degree and one count of child neglect resulting in death.
The Hur
Herald reported the state medical examiner said the infant died from
bleeding to the brain following a skull fracture, "determined to be the
result of blunt force trauma to the victim's skull."
The criminal
complaint filed by Cpl. J.A. Bowles of the Grantsville Detachment of the
State Police indicates the child was injured by the mother by "shaking
and causing the victims head to strike a wooden crib," indicating the
injuries likely happened at least a couple days before she was taken to
Roane General Hospital in Spencer on Feb. 17.
The baby was flown to Morgantown. On Feb. 19, physicians declared her clinically brain dead.
During
a police interview on Feb. 20, Kreh "stated she was angry at Ordie
because he did not get her anything or say anything to her for
Valentine's Day."
Denmark, 24, of Orma, was indicted for the 2006 disappearance of Beach, a 17-year-old Roane County youth.
Denmark
has been in jail since March 2009, when he was charged with child
endangerment. That charge was dismissed in May 2011 after the state
failed to present the case to a grand jury within two terms of the court
following his arrest.
On the same day that charge was dismissed, Denmark was charged with first-degree murder and remained held without bond.
Denmark's
attorney Barbara Schamberger requested Calhoun County Circuit Court
Judge David Nibert dismiss the murder charges against Denmark or grant
bond and home confinement. The defense argued prosecutors failed to
present its evidence within two terms of court.
Nibert disputed
that contention, maintaining charges against Denmark were separate
crimes. However, the judge stated Denmark was entitled to have his case
presented to a grand jury by May, noting the January grand jury has not
been excused.
Husk, 45, of Big Bend is charged in the death of Cyrus, in June following a dispute over Cyrus' ex-wife.
When
he was interviewed Husk told State Police Trooper J.E. Kincaid he was
going home and arrived at his residence to find his driveway blocked by
Cyrus. Husk told Kincaid he continued driving up Trippett Road for about
miles, with Cyrus in pursuit. Husk said he stopped where the road hit a
dead end. Husk claims Cyrus jumped out of his vehicle and began
punching him in the face. Husk told investigators he grabbed his 9 mm
pistol and shot Cyrus three times while he remained seated in his
vehicle.
Husk "stated he and (Cyrus) had been arguing for some
time about Husk residing with Cyrus' ex-wife and Cyrus' daughter being
married to Husk's son," the complaint stated.
The complaint also stated Kincaid obtained three witness statements supporting the complaint.
County
Clerk Sheila Garrettson said Ashley Kreh and William "Seth" Denmark
remain incarcerated at the Central Regional Jail. Ordie Rogers, Thomas
Husk and Robert Taylor Jr. are free on bond. All five will be arraigned
this morning in Calhoun County Circuit Court.
