ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony's civil trial will get started as scheduled in April, despite the latest call for a delay by her attorneys.
During a short hearing Tuesday morning at the Orange County Courthouse, Judge Lisa Munyon denied a defense motion to continue the trial brought on by Zenaida Gonzalez, who is suing Casey for defamation.
The judge said she will allow all further motions to be heard at a pretrial hearing Friday, March 23.
Jury selection is set for Monday, April 9.
Zenaida Gonzalez claims Casey Anthony ruined her life when she said a nanny with the same name kidnapped her daughter, Caylee, in 2008.
But because this is a civil trial, Casey does not have to be in the courtroom.
Her attorney, Charles Greene, said the defense has not made a decision on whether Casey will show up for the trial, but said he does not think it's necessary.
Still, Gonzalez's attorneys are filing a subpoena to get Casey to testify in front of a jury. Attorney Keith Mitnik said he and his team are ready to go to trial, and hopes Gonzalez can face Casey in court.
Greene said he does believe they will find a fair jury in Orange County, and the first question he plans to ask potential jurors is: "Do you hate Casey Anthony?"
"I've watched your programs, and I know she's one of the most hated people in America, and I'm sure we'll get some of the Americans wanting to be on this jury," said Greene.
Casey Anthony's current whereabouts remain a mystery, but she must stay in Florida while she serves a probation sentence for check fraud.
During her most recent check-in with her probation officer, Casey said she remains unemployed, but has been taking some sort of educational class.
