A 26-year-old Elbert County man has been arrested on a felony child abuse charge
in the critical injury of a 4-month-old baby.Elbert County sheriff's deputies were
called to a home about 7 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a baby girl having seizures.The
infant was transported to Children's Hospital Colorado, where she
remained in critical condition on Sunday, sheriff's Lt. Michelle Mattive
said in a news release.On Friday, sheriff's investigators
arrested Richard "Ricky" Dolin on a charge of child abuse resulting in
serious bodily injury, Mattive said.Dolin was being held in the
Elbert County Jail on $100,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in
Elbert County Court on Monday afternoon to be advised of the charge
against him, Mattive said.Authorities did not disclose the relationship between
Dolin and the injured child, but they share the same last name.The sheriff's release
said that a fund has been set up to support the infant, Marlayna Dolin, at www.gofundme.com.
People can contribute by entering the baby's name in the website "search" window.A
message posted Saturday on the website said, "Marlayna has been placed
into an induced coma.... The doctors want to try and let her little
brain rest from the seizures.""She will slowly be woken up within
the next two days. During this time, the doctors and God will be
helping her body perform its functions. Please continue to pray!!" the
message added.Several people wrote messages of support, along with making donations
for the baby, on the website."You and your beautiful family are very much in our prayers.
Stay Strong little Miss," a woman wrote."The
family would like to thank all of the community that has reached out
and supported them in this difficult time," Mattive wrote in the news
release. "They ask that the community and all their friends and family
keep their focus on ... Marlayna and her recovery."

An Elbert County man was charged with felony child abuse after his
4-month-old daughter was rushed to an area hospital with severe brain injuries.


Richard “Ricky” Dolin, 26, was arrested March 14, when
sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical call involving an infant who
was having seizures, said Elbert County Sheriff Shayne Heap.

The infant was treated for cranial bleeding at Children’s Hospital,
where she remains in critical condition, Heap said.
By March 18, doctors placed her in a medically induced coma to relieve her
brain from the seizures, according to the Marlayna Reise Dolin
fundraising blog on gofundme.com. Doctors expected to gradually remove her
from the coma over the ensuing two days, according to the blog.
The family created the blog to help raise money to pay for Marlayna Dolin’s
medical bills. Within days of the blog’s inception, the family was
within 78 percent of its fundraising goal.
Ricky Dolin was charged
with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, a class 4 felony,
Heap said. Dolin made his first court appearance on March 19 in Elbert
County. His bond was set at $100,000.

family and friends said goodbye to 4-month-old Marlayna Dolin, her

told 7NEWS that doctors at Children’s Hospital placed the infant in an
induced coma three times “to let her little brain rest from the
seizures.”She succumbed to her injuries April 1.“She’s with God now,” said family friend Christa Huck. “She’s an angel.”Huck was among many friends and neighbors who attended Marlayna’s funeral.“It’s
been really hard,” Huck said. “We all prayed and hoped for a miracle,
but obviously it didn’t happen the way we were hoping.”Now, their prayers are being focused on the baby's family.While
Marlayna’s mom, Jaime, tries to come to terms with what happened, her
father faces a possible enhanced charge of child abuse resulting in
death.He’s being held in the Elbert County jail on $100,000 bond.Court documents in the case have been sealed, so details of what investigators believe happened are not available.Richard Dolin declined an interview request.He’s due back in court April 23.
