Teen Body found in basement of Burned home - Detroit MI

A child's body was found in a burned Detroit home early Thursday morning.

The case is being described as a homicide, WDIV reports.

The child, 12 or 13 years old, is missing its legs, which were either cut or burned off, investigators said.

The victim was found in the basement of the west side residence after the fire was extinguished.

A
firefighter was hospitalized after the floor collapsed, causing him to
fall 8 to 10 feet into the basement. He suffered back and rib injuries.

DETROIT -
A Detroit firefighter has been released from the
hospital and is recovering from what are described as “serious” back and
rib injuries after he fell through a floor of a burning home on Detroit’s west side.
Investigators believe the home in the 1400
block of Washburn was intentionally set on fire Thursday morning to
cover up a disturbing crime.
After the firefighter was rescued from the burning basement of the home,
a body of a young person was found.
The remains appear to be that of a someone as young as 12 or 13
years old. Investigators tell Local 4 News that the remains are so badly
burned, it’s impossible to tell if the remains are that of a male or female.
Witnesses heard shots in the area between 3:00and 3:30am.
Sources tell Local 4 that it appears the teen or pre-teen was in the
middle of the home’s front room and was shot to death. The body was then
doused with an accelerant and set on fire.
The fire burned a hole through the floor and the body fell into the basement.
Detroit Police homicide investigators are going door to door in this
neighborhood off of Wyoming and Fenkell on the city’s west side asking
neighbors if they heard or saw anything. So far, no family members
missing a young person have come to the area to report a missing loved one.
