SHABNAM ADMADYAR - 15 yo - Elk Grove CA
UPDATED: The Elk Grove police and a search and rescue team are
seeking a 15-year-old girl who was reported missing on March 31. She is a
paranoid schizophrenic, police spokesperson Det. Jim Kang reported.
Shabnam
Admadyar was last seen in the Hood-Franklin area during the late
afternoon of March 30. She left her home on the 4800 block of
Chamberlin Circle around 4:30 p.m. that day.
A store's
surveillance camera recorded her in the town of Franklin during the
evening of March 30. Investigators discovered her clothing on a boat
ramp near the 10900 block of River Road by the Sacramento River the next
day, Kang reported.
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Search and Rescue
volunteers, a U.S. Coast Guard boat crew, Air National Guard
helicopters, and the California Rescue Dog Association are aiding the
aggressive search for Admadyar. Rainy weather reportedly hampered their
search, Kang said.
She is described as a Middle Eastern female who stands five
feet, five inches and weighs an estimated 125 pounds. She has black hair
tied in ponytails. She is wearing a gray hooded jacket and matching
sweatpants.
Kang said that Admadyar lacks identification and her medication.
Readers with information about Admadyar can call the Elk Grove police at (916) 691-5246.

Re: SHABNAM ADMADYAR - 15 yo - Elk Grove CA
Elk Grove police are calling it the most massive missing person
search ever launched by their department. More than 100 volunteers
joined police offers and coast guard crews who combed the roads and
rivers from Elk Grove to Hood. Still, after more than 48 hours, Shabnam
Ahmadyar has not been found.
Police efforts today centered on a
dock along the Sacramento River just South of Hood. Search dogs kept
coming back to the dock, and police say they found some articles of
Ahmadyar's clothing there. But even after crews searched the river
around the dock, inch-by-inch, with and underwater video camera, there
were no answers.
"It's bascially, as it usually is on the Sacramento River, zero visibility," said James
Collentine, a supervisor with the Drowning Accident Rescue Team.
Police still have to option to put divers in the water, who
would search by hand and feel in the places the camera could not penetrate.
"We'll go back, we'll re-assess and see what the
findings are and see where we go tomorrow," said Detective Jim Kang of
the Elk Grove Police.
Meanwhile, Ahmadyar's family prefered to
focus thier seach efforts on more solid, optimisitc ground. They were
out looking in fields and abandoned buildings in the Hood area. Also with no success.
"We are searching all day. 100's of volunteers around the area, and
so far- nothing," said Abdul Wahidy, Ahmadyar's cousin.
Police say that today's massive search effort, and the publicity that it
generated, did yield some results. More leads have come in from people
claiming they've seen Ahmadyar since she went missing Friday. And if the
15-year-old isn't in the Sacramento River, detectives must also
consider the possibility that the troubled teen, without medication, may
be working against them and hiding.

Re: SHABNAM ADMADYAR - 15 yo - Elk Grove CA
Elk Grove police reported this evening that they believe a body recovered
from the Sacramento River this evening is that of 15-year-old Shabnam Ahmadyar.
Divers with the DART team undertook a search of the river near a dock
in the 10900 block of River Road where investigators on Saturday
found clothing belonging to the mentally ill teen.
Elk Grove Police Department spokesman Officer Christopher Trim said the body was
found at 6:53 p.m. about 38 feet from the shoreline on the east side of
the river, 15 feet from the dock and at a depth of between 20 and 30 feet.
He said police await positive identification by the
coroner, but family members were at the scene and have been informed of
the discovery. Cause of death has not been determined.
Trim said the family told officers that the teen liked the water but could not swim.
Her family reported her missing after she walked away form her residence
in the 4800 block of Chamberlain Circle in Elk Grove
about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Police enlisted the public's help in the
search, saying that Ahmadyar had been diagnosed as paranoid
schizophrenic and functioned below her age level.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Elk GrovePolice Department Dispatch Center at (916) 691-5246.

ELK GROVE, CA - Police said the body of a missing Elk Grove girl
was found in the Sacramento River around 7 p.m. Monday, just an hour
after dive teams returned to the water for a third day.
Shabnam Ahmadyar, 15, was last seen around 4:30 p.m. Friday on her
way to a park near her home on the 4800 block of Chamberlin Circle, Elk
Grove Police Officer Chris Trim said.
Trim said Ahmadyar suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and functioned well-below her age level.
Authorities have tentatively identified the body as Ahmadyar's and notified her family.
Ahmadyar's body was found by the Drowning Accident Rescue Team, DART,
in the Sacramento River. Her body was 38 feet from the shore, about 10
feet north of the dock in the Hood-Franklin area. Ahmadyar's body was
about 40 feet under water.
The area was only six miles from her home.
On Saturday, investigators discovered Ahmadyar on a store's
surveillance video in the town of Franklin. Later that day, Det. Jim
Kang said some of Ahmadyar's clothing was found on the dock. On Sunday,
search dogs tracked her scent into the water.
Elk Grove police don't believe the teen's death is suspicious.
"There's nothing to indicate there was an abduction or any type of
crime," Trim said. "It just appears to be a young lady who suffered who
suffered from issues. She got lost or turned around and ended up here at
the river. She liked water, but couldn't swim. It's just a sad story."
