15-year-old Cookeville girl found on highway after AMBER Alert issued
10:34 AM, May. 3, 2012
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl from Cookeville.
She was missing from her home under suspicious circumstances Wednesday
night and then found around 3:30 a.m. today on West Cemetery Road after
an AMBER Alert had been issued.
The youth was conscious when she
was located by a motorist along the roadway near the city limits. She
was taken to Cookeville Regional Medical Center and no major injuries
were immediately evident, Maj. David Dukes of the Cookeville Police Department said.
The teen was last seen at her home between 8 and 9
p.m., Wednesday according to police. Police came to the home around
8:50 p.m. and found evidence that could have indicated a possible abduction.
A younger brother was also at the home when the girl
was missing. The home was large enough that police said it’s feasible
the brother may not have heard the circumstances that led to the girl going missing.
Police aren’t aware of any circumstances in the teen’s background to indicate a motive.
“The investigation is in its infancy and we haven’t ruled anything out,’’
Dukes said. “This is a huge deal in this community. The community is
obviously concerned.’’
