Tazewell County Sheriff’s detectives are seeking information on the
whereabouts of a teenaged runaway who is without her medications.
Kristen Diveley, 14, of rural Pekin, was last seen at 9 p.m. Wednesday
at her home. She is white, has brown or hazel eyes, has blonde hair and
wears braces on her teeth.
Diveley’s grandmother, Debra Diveley, said Kristen has ran away four
times in the past five weeks. The first time she was missing for only an
hour. The next two times she was missing for a day. Debra is the
adoptive parent of Kristen.
“She is awfully young to be out there on her own,” said Debra. “She is not taking her medications because she left them here.
“She’s always been a good kid. She’s always got good grades. Something
changed about five weeks ago and I don’t know what it was.”
Debra said that the second time Kristen ran away she went to a friend’s house and the family took care of her for the night.
“I don’t know how a family could keep her and not call someone to say where she was,” said Debra.
The third time she was found when she went to school while she was missing.
“This time she is not going to school,” said Debra. “I just want her to come home.”
Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Billy Merrill confirmed that
a missing person’s report has been filed on the disappearance of
Kristen.
Merrill said harboring a runaway is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by
up to 364 days in jail and a $2,500 fine. Other charges may also be
applicable.
Merrill said runaway reports in Tazewell County happen fairly often,
but not every week. He said typically the child is found within a few
hours or comes home within a day.
People with information concerning the whereabouts of Kristen should
call the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department at (309) 346-4141.
