(CNN) -- Two bodies have been found by investigators probing the disappearance of a Tennessee mother and her three daughters, with authorities pleading Saturday for help in finding their suspected abductor -- a man they described as likely "armed and dangerous."

The FBI, in a press release Saturday, did not say whose bodies were discovered. But the federal agency did identify the man who they believe "is responsible for their disappearance" as Adam Mayes, saying an arrest warrant has been issued for him.

The husband of Jo Ann Bain, 31, reported his wife and the three girls -- 14-year-old Adrienne Bain, 12-year-old Alexandra Bain and 8-year-old Kyliyah Bain -- missing on April 27, according to the FBI. They were last seen in Whiteville, a town of about 4,600 people in western Tennessee.

Authorities "initiated contact early in the investigation" with Mayes, who was "considered a friend of the family," but he fled, the FBI said. The 35-year-old white male -- who has blue eyes and brown hair, weighs about 175 pounds and stands 6 feet, 3 inches tall -- was last seen May 1 in Guntown, Mississippi.

The two bodies tied to the case were found Friday at residences in Mississippi.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert that day, though it wasn't widely publicized until Saturday.

In it, authorities warned that the three sisters "may be in extreme danger" and that a kidnapping warrant had been issued for Mayes. He had recently cut his own hair and may have done the same to the three children, according to the Amber Alert

"Adam Mayes should be considered armed and dangerous," the FBI said.

The suspect, woman and children may have been en route to Arizona or Mississippi, according to the Amber Alert. Mayes has connections to Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Mayes' arrest and the missing woman and her daughters.

Two bodies have been found in Guntown, Mississippi, at a residence of
Adam Mayes, who is believed to be responsible for the disappearance of
three children and a 31-year-old from Hardeman County. The bodies
were found when the Memphis Division of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation executed federal search warrants at residences in
Mississippi. FBI says the identities of the bodies are unconfirmed.
On
Friday, April 27, JoAnn Bain, 31, and her three children, Kyliyah Bain,
8, Alexandria Bain, 12, and Adrienne Bain, 14, were reported missing by
her husband. JoAnn's vehicle was later found abandoned.
FBI says they believe Mayes may have changed his appearance as well as of the missing victims.
Anyone
with information that may lead to the location of Adam Mayes - who may
also go by Paco Rodrigass - and the missing victims should immediately
call the Tennessee Fusion Center at 1-800-TBI-FIND (1-800-824-3463).

Authorities were working Sunday to identify two bodies found at a
Mississippi residence associated with a man suspected of abducting a
woman and her three young daughters. The FBI has said two bodies
were found over the weekend at a home connected to 35-year-old Adam
Mayes in Guntown, Miss., but agents have released few other details.
Authorities believe that Mayes abducted the woman, Jo Ann Bain, and her
three daughters, ages 8 to 14.
ALEXANDRIA AND KYLIYAH BAIN - 12 & 8 yo - Whiteville TN - AZ and MS alerted AR-120509718
On Sunday, forensic scientists with
the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation searched the garage and backyard
at the Hardeman County, Tenn. home where Bain, her husband and their
children lived.
An Associated Press reporter saw the agents
searching before being told to leave the street where the home was
located. Bain’s husband declined to comment Sunday.
Meanwhile, a
Bain family friend said Sunday that the woman and her daughters were
moving to Arizona because two of the girls had asthma.
Linda
Kirkland, a cook at the Country Cafe in Whiteville, Tenn., said that the
Bains and their daughters were back in the Whiteville area taking care
of some business after a death in the family.
Tennessee authorities said the family had not yet moved.
Bain had frequented the restaurant and never indicated anything was wrong.
“She seemed so happy,” Kirkland said.
“Jo Ann and the kids, everyone loves them. We’re just hoping to hear that they’re safe.”
Bain’s
daughters are 14-year-old Adrienne, 12-year-old Alexandria and
8-year-old Kyliyah. An Amber Alert has been issued for the girls, and
Mayes is charged with kidnapping in Tennessee.
FBI spokesman Joel
Siskovic said Sunday that efforts to identify the bodies continued on
Sunday. He would not say if they were children. They were found late
Friday night or early Saturday morning.
The Bains were last seen
April 27 in Hardeman County, Tenn., which is about 70 miles east of
Memphis. The woman’s husband reported her missing, and her vehicle was
found abandoned.
Authorities said Mayes was at the family’s home
on the night that Jo Ann Bain went missing late last month. They were
trying to determine if Jo Ann Bain went with Mayes willingly.
Mayes
was last seen Tuesday in Guntown, Miss., about 80 miles southeast of
the Bains’ Tennessee home. He’d been described as a family friend.
The
FBI and U.S. Marshals Service announced Saturday a reward of up to
$50,000 for information that leads to the location of the missing
victims and the arrest of Mayes.
Siskovic said the bodies were
found in a residence, but it wasn’t clear if it was a house, mobile home
or apartment. He also wasn’t sure if the residence belonged to Mayes or
an acquaintance. Siskovic said the bodies were found in Guntown.
Siskovic
said authorities talked to Mayes early on in the investigation, but he
fled when they tried to contact him again. The FBI says agents were not
immediately aware of Mayes having a criminal record.
Melvin
Herron, 42, lives next door to the Bain family in Tennessee. He recalled
seeing the girls playing outside, running and going down water slides.
Herron
said he had met Mayes on several occasions, and that the man apparently
“thought the world of those little girls.” Mayes often played softball
and kickball with the children, Herron said.
Herron said he hoped the bodies found in Mississippi were not the girls or their mother.
“I’m praying to God it’s not those little girls,” he said.
Authorities
had said that Mayes could be in Mississippi but that he has ties to
Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.
Authorities
described Adrienne as a white girl with brown hair and eyes. She’s 5
feet 4 inches tall and 129 pounds. Alexandria has brown hair and hazel
eyes and is 5 feet tall and 105 pounds. Kyliyah has blonde hair and
brown eyes and is 4 feet tall and 57 pounds.
Mayes has brown hair and blue eyes and is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.
Authorities said Mayes may have cut his hair, as well as cut and dyed the girls’ hair to disguise their identities.
Anyone with information is asked to call 601-987-1353 or 1-800-TBI-FIND.

A man accused of abducting a mother and her three daughters has been described as being like an uncle to the girls. Now Adam Mayes, 35, is the subject of an Amber Alert and faces charges in the disappearance of Jo Ann Bain and her daughters 14-year-old Adrienne, 12-year-old Alexandria and 8-year-old Kyliyah.
Meanwhile, FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic
said Sunday that authorities were trying to identify two bodies found
at a Mississippi home Mayes has been linked to. He would not say if they
were children. Authorities have described Mayes as being armed and
extremely dangerous.
Jo Ann Bain's husband Gary and Mayes knew each other, Tennessee authorities said.
Mayes "thought the world of those little girls," observed Melvin Herron,
42, who lives next door to the Bain family in western Tennessee and
recalled seeing the girls playing outside, running and going down
water slides.
On Sunday, forensic scientists with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation searched the garage and backyard at the Hardeman County, Tenn., home where Bain, her husband and the three girls live.
Gary Bain declined to comment Sunday to an Associated Press reporter.
"Jo Ann and the kids, everyone loves them. We're just hoping to hear that they're safe," said Linda Kirkland, a family friend and cook at the Country Cafe in Whiteville, Tenn.
Kirkland
said Sunday that the woman and her daughters were moving to Arizona
because two of the girls had asthma. Other than dealing with a recent
death in the family, Bain, who had frequented the restaurant, never
indicated anything was wrong.
"She seemed so happy," Kirkland said.
Jo Ann Bain and her daughters were last seen in their home early April 27, according to Kristin Helm, a spokeswoman for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Mayes and Gary Bain had long been acquainted, having once been married to sisters. Helm said he was viewed as an uncle.
"Mayes
is a family friend who was staying there that night to help the family
pack and drive a U-Haul to Arizona the next day with Gary because the
family was planning on moving there within the month," Helm said. "Gary
was asleep at the home that night and woke to find them gone in the
morning and the car gone. Mayes was gone too."
Gary
Bain woke up after the kids typically went to school so he didn't
expect to see them, Helm said. But then he tried calling his wife on her
cell phone during the day and couldn't reach her.
When the girls didn't get off the school bus, he reported them missing to the sheriff's office that evening.
Helm
said Gary Bain's adult daughter and his granddaughter had also spent
the night at the family's home, but that the grown daughter didn't see
Jo Ann or the girls the next morning. And the car was missing.
On
April 30, the vehicle was found abandoned in Hardeman County, which is
about 70 miles east of Memphis. Jo Ann Bain and her daughters had left
most of their personal belongings at the house, Helm said.
On
Friday, the TBI reported that the girls were with Mayes in Mississippi,
but there was no evidence that a crime had been committed.
Mayes was last seen Tuesday in Guntown, Miss., about 80 miles southeast of the Bains' Tennessee home.
Siskovic
said authorities talked to Mayes early on in the investigation, but
that he fled when they tried to contact him again. Authorities said
Mayes did not appear to have a criminal record.
Police had been trying to determine whether Jo Ann Bain went with Mayes willingly.
By
Friday, Mayes had a warrant on file in Hardeman County for false report
stemming from information he gave investigators about the case.
Siskovic
said Saturday that the bodies were found late Friday or early Saturday
in a Mississippi home. He wasn't sure if the home belonged to Mayes or
an acquaintance.
The
Mississippi Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert on Saturday morning
for the girls, and Tennessee authorities have also issued an alert.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said Saturday it believed "the children may be in extreme danger," and that warrants for kidnapping had been issued for Mayes.
The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service
also announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to
the location of the missing victims and the arrest of Mayes.
Authorities
had said over the weekend that Mayes could be in Mississippi but that
he has ties to Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina
and Florida.
Authorities
described Adrienne as having brown hair and eyes. She's 5 feet 4 inches
tall and 129 pounds. Alexandria has brown hair and hazel eyes and is 5
feet tall and 105 pounds. Kyliyah has blonde hair and brown eyes and is 4
feet tall and 57 pounds.
Mayes has brown hair and blue eyes and is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.
However, authorities said Mayes may have cut his hair, as well as cut and dyed the girls' hair to disguise their identities.
Back
in the Bains' neighborhood, neighbor Herron said he hoped the bodies
found in Mississippi were not the girls or their mother.
"I'm praying to God it's not those little girls," he said.

A desperate hunt for a mother and her
three children missing since last month has led to a grim discovery, as

Authorities say they have found the bodies of a missing Tennessee
mother and her 14-year-old daughter in Mississippi, while her two other
daughters may still be with an alleged abductor.

The FBI said in a news release late Monday that the bodies of Jo
Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter Adrienne Bain have been positively
identified.

The FBI believes Bain's two other daughters are still with alleged
kidnapper Adam Mayes. He is accused of abducting the girls from the
family's home in Whiteville, Tenn.

The FBI says the bodies were found behind Mayes' residence near Guntown, Miss.

Mayes was last seen a week ago in Guntown, about 80 miles south of the Bain family's home in Whitesville, Tenn.

Kidnapping warrants have been issued for Mayes. The Mississippi
Department of Public Safety said Saturday it believed "the children may
be in extreme danger."

Jo Ann Bain and her daughters were last seen at their home outside
Whiteville. Before they disappeared, the Bains had been preparing to
move to Arizona.

The mother's Facebook page shows that in the days before the four
disappeared she was packing and working on homework. Her last post,
dated April 26, said "a good venting always makes you feel better." It
didn't say why she was venting.

A web of ties connects Mayes to the missing woman and her family.
They were all known around Whiteville, a town of about 4,500 people 60
miles east of Memphis. Mayes was a longtime friend of Bain's husband and
had been at their home the evening before they disappeared, police
said.

Mayes had stayed over at the Bains' house to help the family pack and
load up a U-Haul to drive across the country to Arizona, Helm said.
Gary Bain, who was at the house that night, awoke to find his wife,
daughters and Mayes gone.

He couldn't reach his wife on her cell phone that day, and reported them missing when the girls didn't get off the school bus.

While authorities say Mayes is likely to be armed and extremely
dangerous, acquaintances describe him as friendly, helpful and like an
uncle to the girls.

Gerald Long, 60, of Jackson, Tenn., said he last saw Mayes about two
years ago. He said Mayes lived across the street from him for about a
year with his wife, Teresa. He described Mayes as a "sociable person."

He was helpful, Long said. "He didn't seem violent or anything."

As for his relationship with his wife, Long said "they were always up and down about things." Long would not elaborate.

FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic said authorities talked to Mayes early on
in the investigation, but he fled when they tried to contact him again.

Authorities had said over the weekend that Mayes could be in
Mississippi but that he has ties to Arizona, Texas, North Carolina,
South Carolina and Florida.

Wife, mother of kidnap-slaying suspect arrested

ADRIAN SAINZ, Associated Press

Updated 09:19 a.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2012

GUNTOWN, Miss. (AP) — Police have arrested the wife and mother of a man suspected of abducting and killing a Tennessee woman and her oldest daughter and kidnapping the woman's two youngest daughters.

A court clerk confirmed that Adam Mayes' wife, Teresa Mayes, and mother, Mary Mayes, are in jail in Hardeman County, Tenn., and will be arraigned Tuesday.

The clerk did not yet know what charges they face.

Teresa Mayes' sister Bobbi Booth said Adam Mayes and his wife lived with his parents.

The bodies of Jo Ann Bain and 14-year-old Adrienne Bain were found behind a house in North Mississippi late last week.

Booth said her sister told her she knew about the killings, but she thinks Teresa Mayes may have been too scared to call the police.

Wife and mother of suspected kidnapper arrested and charged

Posted: May 08, 2012 11:47 AM CDT Updated: May 08, 2012 11:55 AM CDT

HARDEMAN COUNTY, TN -
(WMC-TV) – As the search continues for Adam Mayes, the man suspected of kidnapping a Tennessee family, his wife and mother sit behind bars.

Mayes' wife, Teresa, and his mother, Mary Francis, are both in the Hardeman County Jail. Teresa is charged with four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. Mary is charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

The two women were arraigned Tuesday morning.

In the police affidavit, it is revealed that Teresa Mayes admits that she was involved in taking the Bain family from Hardeman County by driving them to Union County, Mississippi.

The affidavit also says that Mary Francis Mayes knew about the crimes.

Teresa's sister, Bobbi Booth, had shocking things to say to Action News 5 about what her sister told her about the murders of Jo Ann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter, Adrienne. Their bodies were found in the backyard of a home in Alpine, Mississippi.

Booth said her sister admitted to her that the two were murdered by Mayes.

"She knew he dug the grave. That was my understanding of the conversation with her because I was yelling at her. I'm like 'You what?' You know. What she said, 'I saw him digging a hole,'" Booth told Action News 5.

Adam and Teresa Mayes lived in the Alpine, MS, home with Adam's parents Mary Francis and Johnny Mayes.

On April 27, Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters disappeared. Their car was found in a field not far from their Whiteville home. Her husband, Gary, reported them missing.

Bobbi Booth says that Adam has relatives in Florida and they believe he is coming for a visit. Booth says investigators are now in Florida now looking for Mayes.

Mayes may be using the aliases Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass. He should be considered armed and very dangerous. Call 1-800-TBI-FIND with any information.

Teresa Mayes bond is set at $500,000. Mary Mayes bond is set at $300,000.

Mayes Added to State's Most Wanted List

Updated: Tuesday, 08 May 2012, 6:38 PM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 08 May 2012, 6:38 PM CDT

Guntown, Ms - Kidnapping suspect Adam Mayes has been added to the state's Most Wanted List. Now, surveillance video has surfaced showing him at the County Line One Market in Guntown, Mississippi, three days after the alleged kidnapping of a Hardeman County mother and her three kids.

The store clerk says he came in alone.

Clerk Nick Barghoutti said, "He came in last Monday around 5. He bought a coke and left. He was very calm, very normal. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary."

The store clerk said Mayes had come in before, but this time he noticed he cut his hair.

"I remember he had a hair cut because he had a pony(tail) and now he had a haircut."

Barghoutti says his ex-wife was here as recently as Thursday, "She was very quiet, she said, 'I can't believe.' But, then the cops were here and told me she was in on it."

Tuesday, Mayes' 65-year-old mother Mary was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Especially Aggravated Kidnapping. His ex-wife Teresa Mayes was charged with four counts of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping.

Guntown residents were shocked.

"What a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive," said Michael Mann. "It's real terrible and this whole community is shocked."

According to court documents, Adam Mayes kidnapped the victims, then he and his ex-wife drove a rented trailer, with the victims in it, from Tennessee to Mississippi.

Friday, the bodies of Joann Bain and her 14-year-old daughter were found buried in a shallow grave behind the Mississippi home Mayes lived in with his parents and ex-wife.

In the rented trailer, the FBI found property belonging to the 8 and 12-year-old missing Bain girls. They believe the 2 girls are with Mayes and are still alive.

Mayes could go by the aliases Christopher Wylde or Paco Rodrigass. A $56,000 reward is being offered for his arrest and return of the girls. Call 1-800-TBI-FIND if you have information.

The FBI says their search is still focused on Mississippi. The FBI says federal charges could be filed against Mayes mother and ex-wife.

ALEXANDRIA AND KYLIYAH BAIN - 12 & 8 yo - Whiteville TN - AZ and MS alerted Empty Re: ALEXANDRIA AND KYLIYAH BAIN - 12 & 8 yo - Whiteville TN - AZ and MS alerted

Post by TomTerrific0420 Wed May 09, 2012 11:38 am

GUNTOWN, Miss.—Heavily-armed FBI
agents and authorities from Mississippi and Tennessee were expected to
resume searching woods and back roads Wednesday for what they said was a
dangerous man suspected of killing a Tennessee woman and her teenage
daughter and fleeing with her two younger girls.

Meanwhile, a community continued to mourn the slain mother and daughter and the loss of the girls.

A
day earlier, authorities canvassed roads and searched tree lines near
the home where Adam Mayes, 35, lived in Union County, Miss. Authorities
have been tight-lipped about the details of the search, hoping to avoid
releasing information that puts the girls' lives in jeopardy.

The
FBI said Tuesday that authorities were hopeful the two young girls --
Alexandra Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8 -- were still alive, but
declined to say why. Investigators believed the two youngest daughters
were still with Mayes, FBI spokesman Joel Siskovic said.

Authorities
have said Mayes was a family friend who was staying with the Bains on
April 27, the day the mother and children disappeared. Before he fled,
he admitted to authorities that he was the last person to see Jo Ann
Bain and her daughters before the disappearance, according to an
affidavit filed with the court.

The
bodies of Jo Ann Bain, 31, and Adrienne Bain, 14, were found last week
behind the mobile home in northern Mississippi where Mayes lived. The
affidavit provides the first clue that the victims may have been killed
soon after they were abducted. It said his wife and mother saw him
digging a hole in the yard on April 27 or soon after.

On Tuesday, those women were charged in connection with the abduction.

Teresa
Mayes, 30, was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and Mary
Mayes, 65, was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

An
attorney for Teresa Mayes, whose bond was set at $500,000, declined to
comment Tuesday afternoon. Calls to the attorney assigned to Mary Mayes
were not immediately returned. Her bond was set at $300,000.

An affidavit filed in court does not hint at a possible motive for their involvement.

Teresa
Mayes told investigators she drove Jo Ann Bain and her daughters from
Hardeman County, where they lived, to Union County, Miss., where Adam
and Teresa Mayes lived with his parents, according to the affidavit.

Hundreds
of adults, teens and children came from throughout west and central
Tennessee and north Mississippi for a prayer vigil Tuesday evening at
Bolivar Dixie Youth Park, where the two oldest Bain girls played
softball.

Mourners sang
songs and bowed their heads in prayer as they held red, yellow, orange
and purple balloons during the ceremony. Some wept during the vigil and
sniffles punctuated the quiet night during a moment of silence for Jo
Ann Bain and her three daughters.

Many
of the mourners said the kidnappings have shaken their small-town,
tight-knit communities, from Corinth, Miss., to Whiteville, Tenn.

Stephanie
Bodiford, of Middleton, Tenn., said her son was in the same class at
Central High School in Bolivar as Adrienne Bain, who along with her
mother was found dead in a home where suspect Adam Mayes lived in
Guntown, Miss.

Bodiford said her children have been distraught in the days since the disappearance of Bain and her daughters.

"We live in such a sheltered community," Bodiford said. "They just don't understand. They don't understand bad."

Megan
Ervin said she played with Adrienne Bain on the same softball team last
year. She described Adrienne as a good player who enjoyed softball.

"She was real nice but she was real shy," Ervin said.

Ervin, 16, said she and her friends have been shaken by the kidnapping and deaths.

She
also said Mayes spent time at the park. He would often come see the
Bain girls play, she said. Megan Ervin's mother Pam said she also saw
Mayes hanging out at the park.

"It's
just shocking. It could have been any of us, really, because he was
always here and everybody saw him," Megan said. "He was around all these
kids all the time."

She recoiled, saying, "No," when asked if she had ever spoken with Mayes.

"When
I first saw him, I kind of had a bad vibe about him, so I just kind of
stayed away," Ervin said. "But then I saw him here all the time and I
figured he's no threat to us because he's always here. Obviously, that
wasn't true."

Mayes' wife charged with two counts of first degree murder

osted: May 09, 2012 11:06 AM CDT Updated: May 09, 2012 11:36 AM CDT

MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) – An interview between Teresa Mayes and investigators is revealing new details about the kidnapping of a Tennesse family and the murder of the mother and one of her daughters.

Teresa is the wife of Adam Mayes, the man suspected of the kidnapping and murders.

Wednesday, Teresa was charged with two counts of first degree murder in addition to two previous charges of especially aggravated kidnapping.

In the latest police affidavit, it reveals that Teresa watched her husband kill Jo Ann Bain in a garage in Whiteville. She also told investigators Mayes killed Adrienne in the same town. She admits to driving the vehicle with the bodies inside it to Alpine, MS, where they were found buried in a backyard.

During the interview, Teresa also stated that Adam Mayes' plan was to kidnap the two younger girls. The murders of Jo Ann and Adrienne were directly part of the kidnapping.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will be holding a news conference at 2 p.m. regarding the search for Adam Mayes and Alexandria Bain, 12, and her sister Kyliyah, 8.

Mayes is on the run, and investigators believe he still has the other two girls with him.

Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters, Adrienne, Alexandria, and Kyliyah, went missing April 27 from their home in Hardeman County, TN.

The bodies of Jo Ann Bain and her daughter, Adrienne, 14, were found in the backyard of the Alpine, MS, home Mayes lived in with his wife, Teresa, and his parents, Mary Frances and Johnny Mayes.

Teresa and Mary Frances were arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with the kidnapping.

Teresa is charged with four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. Mary Frances faces four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

Read more about their arrests and charges here.

Surveillance video surfaced Tuesday of Adam Mayes in a convenience store in Guntown, MS. The video was taken just three days after the family disappeared.

The video shows Mayes cut his hair.

The manhunt for him is still underway, and the reward for information leading to his arrest is on the rise. The reward currently sits at $71,000.

Keep in mind, Mayes is considered armed and extremely dangerous. He may be using the aliases Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass.

If you have any information on Adam Mayes' whereabouts, you are asked to contact 1-800-TBI-FIND.

WMCTV.COM will stream the FBI's news conference live at 2 p.m.

Wife of fugitive suspect in Tennessee kidnappings charged with first degree murder

http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/05/09/wife-of-fugitive-suspect-in-tennessee-kidnappings-charged-with-first-degree-murder/?hpt=hp_t2

Adam Mayes, who remains at large, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, and false report, police documents show. His wife, Teresa Ann Mayes, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, said her lawyer, Shana Johnson. Additional kidnapping charges against her were dismissed.

The FBI on Wednesday will announce that Adam Mayes is being added to the agency's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list. Authorities continued their search Wednesday for Mayes, who is suspected of kidnapping Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters in Tennessee.

The reward leading to Mayes' capture is now up to $175,000, including a combination of state and federal agency reward money.

Mayes, 35, is believed to be armed and dangerous with Bain's two youngest daughters, Alexandria, 12, and Kyliyah, 8. Bain and her eldest daughter, Adrienne, 14, were found dead in a home linked to Mayes in Guntown, Mississippi.

The case has drawn at least 17 law enforcement agencies and hundreds of investigators, but an FBI special agent had no updates Wednesday morning.

Teresa Mayes' lawyer, Shana Johnson, told CNN that her client is cooperating with police but would not say whether she knows the whereabouts of Adam Mayes or the girls.

The Mayes family and the Bain family are connected through Adam Mayes' sister Pamela, who used to be married to Jo Ann's husband Gary Bain, the lawyer said. Adam and Teresa Mayes were married for 11 years and lived in Guntown, she said.

Johnson said she has asked for a mental health evaluation of her client.

According to an arrest warrant, Teresa Mayes admitted driving Jo Ann Bain and her three daughters from Hardeman County to Union County, Mississippi. Bain and her daughter Adrienne suffered "serious bodily injury as a result of their removal or confinement," according to the warrant.

(CNN) -- Two young sisters, Alexandria and Kyliyah Bain, were the targets of a kidnapping plot that involved the killing of their mother and older sister, a Tennessee court document states.

The girls are 12 and 8, respectively, and are believed to be with Adam Mayes, a fugitive slated to join the ranks of the FBI's 10 most wanted Wednesday afternoon.

Mayes' wife Teresa Mayes and his mother Mary Frances Mayes are in custody, but he continues to evade a small army of 17 law enforcement agencies and hundreds of personnel.

Adam and Teresa Mayes each have been charged with two counts of first degree murder and two counts of especially aggravated kidnapping. Adam Mayes faces an additional count of making a false report, an affidavit shows.

The reward for information leading to Mayes' capture is now $175,000, including a combination of state and federal agency reward money.

In an interview with police, Teresa Mayes said Adam Mayes' intended to take Alexandria and Kyliyah from their home in Hardeman County, Tennessee, the affidavit states.

Teresa was in a garage next to the house where Adam Mayes killed Jo Ann Bain and her daughter Adrienne, she told police.

"Both murders were directly a part of the kidnapping" of the two younger girls, the document alleges.

His mother, Mary Frances Mayes, has been charged with four counts of conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

They appeared before a judge Tuesday morning and were being held in the Hardeman County Jail, deputy court clerk Pat Kirk said.

Teresa Mayes' lawyer, Shana Johnson, said her client is cooperating with police but would not say whether she knows the whereabouts of Adam Mayes or the girls.

The Mayes family and the Bain family are connected through Adam Mayes' sister Pamela, who used to be married to Jo Ann's husband, Gary Bain, the lawyer said.

Adam and Teresa Mayes have been married for 11 years and lived in Guntown, she said.

Johnson said she has asked for a mental health evaluation of her client.

Bobbi Booth, Teresa Mayes' sister, spoke to CNN's Anderson Cooper on Tuesday about Adam Mayes and his relationship with her sister, who she said has mental health problems.

"I've known Adam for at least 25 years, and he's always been weird and unusual ... but I never dreamed he would do something like this," she said.

She described him as aggressive and not trustworthy. He beat and threatened to kill her sister, said Booth, who pleaded with him to "do the right thing."

"Just let the children go. This has gone on way too far, and we need to figure out what's going on, and it's not fair to the children," she said.

Authorities tried to interview Mayes soon after Gary Bain reported his wife and the girls missing April 27 in Whiteville, a western Tennessee town of 4,600 people. However, Mayes fled, officials said.

He was last seen May 1 in Guntown, the same northern Mississippi town where the bodies were found. Details about time or cause of death haven't been released.

Mayes may be using the alias of Christopher Zachery Wylde or Paco Rodrigass, his Facebook profile name, the FBI said Monday.

Rick Foster, whose wife was a lifelong friend of Jo Ann Bain's and whose daughter was a classmate of Adrienne Bain's, recently said Mayes had been a friend of the Bain family for years. Mayes lived about 90 miles away in Mississippi, Foster said, but would stay with the Bains when he was in the Whiteville area.

Authorities describe Mayes as a white man with blue eyes and brown hair, 175 pounds and 6-foot-3. He recently cut his hair and may have done the same to the missing girls.

As for the Bains, Foster described the marriage between Jo Ann and Gary as "perfect" and said the family had planned to move to Arizona once the school year ended.

The FBI and U.S. Marshal Service are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Mayes' arrest and to the missing girls.

FBI adds fugitive in Tennessee killing-kidnap case to 10 Most Wanted List

Adam
Mayes and his wife have been charged with the murder of a Tennessee
woman and her eldest daughter. Two other daughters are missing but
authorities say there is reason to believe they are still alive. NBC's
Pete Williams reports.

By msnbc.com news services
Updated at 4:30 p.m. ET: The
FBI on Wednesday added Adam Mayes to its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List
after he was charged in the killing of a Tennessee mother and her teen
daughter and the kidnapping of her two younger children.

First-degree
murder charges were filed earlier Wednesday against Mayes and his wife,
Teresa, suspected of killing Tennessee mother Jo Ann Bain and her
teenage daughter, Adrienne.

Authorities said at a Wednesday
afternoon news conference they are doing all they can to find Adam
Mayes, who is suspected of fleeing with Bain’s two younger girls,
Alexandria Bain, 12, and Kyliyah Bain, 8.
While search efforts are
focused on Union County, Miss., Mayes also has ties toTexas, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Arizona.

“We
believe Mayes could be anywhere in the United States, and we are
extremely concerned for the safety of the girls,” said Aaron Ford,
special agent in charge of our Memphis office. “Anyone who has any
information about this case, of if you’ve seen Mayes or the girls,
please contact your nearest FBI office or the local police immediately.”

A
man charged with kidnapping a mother and her three daughters and
killing two of them was added to the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list. NBC's
Chris Clackum reports.

Mayes is also charged in federal court
with unlawful flight across state lines to avoid prosecution, giving the
FBI jurisdiction, Ford said.

The reward for information leading to the arrest Mayes is up to $175,000.

Teresa
Mayes made an appearance Wednesday in Hardeman County, Tenn.,
courtroom, NBC station WMC of Memphis reported. She was earlier charged
with four counts of especially aggravated kidnapping.

Teresa Mayes, wife of Adam Mayes, is shown in a photo provided by the Hardeman County, Tenn., Sheriff's Office.

Adam Mayes’ mother, Mary Frances Mayes, also was charged earlier with conspiracy to commit especially aggravated kidnapping.

A police affidavit obtained by WMC
reveals that Teresa watched her husband kill Jo Ann Bain in a garage
adjacent to the Bains' Whiteville, Tenn., home. She also told police
Adam Mayes killed Adrienne Bain at the home, the affidavit says. Police
in the affidavit say she admitted to driving a vehicle with the bodies
inside it to Alpine, Miss., where they were found buried in a backyard
of his mother's Guntown, Miss., home.

Teresa Mayes told officials the motive was to kidnap Bain's two younger daughters.

Three
days after Bain and her three daughters went missing, Adam Mayes
appeared in a Guntown, Miss., convenience store surveillance videotape,
his hair clipped short, officials said.

Barghouti said that when he saw Mayes he was "very calm, very polite. That's why
I'm surprised. Somebody that calm and polite, and does that -- that's a
lot to put together."

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said
Mayes, 35, cut his hair and may try to alter the girls' appearance as
well by cutting or dying their hair.

Mayes is said to have babysat for Bain's daughters, reported WMCTV.com. The
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation believes he is carrying a firearm and
have added him to the state's "most wanted" list. A $50,000 reward is
being offered for information leading to his arrest and information
about Alexandria and Kyliyah.

Teresa Mayes' bond is set at $500,000 and Mary Frances Mayes' bond is $300,000, WMC reported.

Jo Ann Bain, 31, and her three daughters disappeared on April 27. Her
husband, Gary, reported them missing, and their car was found in a field
close to their Whiteville home.

Anyone with information on Adam Mayes' whereabouts was asked to call 1-800-TBI-FIND.

Mayes is the 496th person to be named to the Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list,
the FBI said. Since its creation in 1950, 465 fugitives on the list have
been apprehended or located—153 as a result of citizen cooperation.
