Three-year-old girl found naked and covered in cuts after mother 'kicked her down stairs and beat her with a belt'

A mother accused of kicking her three-year-old down an apartment stairwell and beating her with a belt faces felony charges.

Lashonda Cummings, 24, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was charged with child abuse by injury, court records show.

A
caller alerted police after seeing Cummings attack the child on July 28
at the Highland Park Apartments, according to the arrest report.

When officers arrived to investigate, Cummings initially denied police access to the apartment without a search warrant, Tulsa Watch reported.


But
she relented after a police supervisor told her they would make entry
with or without her consent out of concern for the child, the report
reads.

Police found the girl naked, wet and shaking
beneath a blanket inside the apartment with multiple lacerations to her
back, shoulders, arm and head, according to the report.

Cummings reportedly told police the girl tried to run off and wouldn't listen, so she punished her with a belt.

According to Tulsa Watch, she said the child was wet because Cummings attempted to wash the blood off the girl.

She is also being held on multiple warrants for traffic violations.
