Man tells deputies 'life sucks' when told child was hospitalized

OCALA, Fla. - Marion County deputies arrested a man they say threw boiling water onto a 15-month-old child.

Christopher Dale Welling, 36, of Ocala, was arrested on child abuse charges.

According to deputies, Welling walked into an Ocala home Friday night where a woman was babysitting. Welling said a woman identified only as Jen told him he could "chill" at the home, according to deputies.

The sitter said Welling appeared to be highly intoxicated, according to deputies.

The woman then told Welling to leave, but he took a pot of boiling water and threw it on the child, according to the report.

The woman wrote down Welling's car information and took the baby to the hospital.

The baby suffered burns on his face, chest and groin, deputies said. The child's condition has not been released.

When deputies went to Welling's home on SE 73rd Street, he said the child poured the water on himself. Welding said, "Life sucks," when he was informed that the boy was hospitalized, according to deputies.

Welling was arrested on child abuse charges and probation violation and taken to Marion County jail.

Wow... this story is disturbing, but what makes it more so for me is his name is errily close to my husband's name and my husband has family in Ocala... he's not related to this man though... but still eery.
