Search continues for missing Highlands Ranch teens with special needs

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — A Highlands Ranch teen with special needs who reportedly wandered away from his home on Friday and then again on Sunday has not been located as of Monday afternoon, according to police.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ron Hanavan said police received a report about an endangered 16-year-old runaway at inappropriately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The caller said the teen, Ethan Ryder, had left his home on the 9800 block of Spring Hill Lane wearing only a t-shirt and jeans. Ryder was also not carrying a cell phone.
Hanavan said Ryder’s family is especially concerned because temperatures are expected to dip far below freezing on Monday night.
The family said this is the second time Ryder has wandered off in the last three days. He went missing for the first time on Friday night before being discovered at 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Ryder is described as a white male standing about 6-foot-2 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red t-shirt with a gray pattern, brown work boots and blue jeans.
Hanavan said Ryder enjoys walking in the green belt areas around the Highlands Ranch subdivision.
The public is being encourage to call 911 if they seen anyone matching Ryder’s description.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – Sheriff’s deputies have found Ethan Ryder, the 16-year-old who went missing Monday in Highlands Ranch.
“Ethan has been located and is doing well,” said Sgt. Ron Hanavan of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Hanavan did not say how Ethan was found but said he is at an area hospital.
Ethan went missing on Sunday around noon. He left his home in the 9800 block of Spring Hill Lane wearing only a T-shirt and jeans.
Temperatures Sunday and Monday never got above 30 degrees.
The family said this is the second time Ryder has wandered off in the last three days. He went missing for the first time on Friday night before being discovered at 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities worried that because Ethan is developmentally disabled be may have become lost.
