Authorities: Two teens dead, one in custody in Amber alert case

OTTAWA - Two boys are dead and one boy is in custody in a case that came to the public's attention through an Amber alert that was later cancelled.
Lt. Josh Strick of the Ottawa Police Department reported, "the 17-year-old male that was located in the vehicle in Columbus, Ohio, gave the location of the bodies of the previously missing juveniles."
Police and sheriff's officials declined to release additional information. Earlier in the day, they identified 17-year-old Michael Aaron Fey as the boy found with a missing silver 2006 Chevrolet HHR with license plate FNN 5412 on it.
An earlier press release from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office described the trailer as an apparent crime scene.
Police originally issued an Amber Alert around 11:30 a.m. before cancelling it around 2:30 p.m.
Officials had hoped to find Blaine Romes, 14; and Blake Aaron Romes, 17; who lived with Fey at Lot 61 of the Elkcrest
Trailer Park at 1570 N. Perry St., Ottawa, according a press release.
The mother called the Ottawa Police Department at 5:31 a.m. today to discover what appeared to be a crime scene. A silver
2006 Chevy HHR with license plate FNN 5412 was also missing, Strick said. He declined to release additional information on the apparent crime scene.
The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation assisted in the investigation and helped process the scene. Putnam County activated the Amber Alert system, as well as issuing a Code Red phone call to residents.

17-year-old charged in deaths of Ohio brothers

Updated: 6:09 pm, Fri May 17, 2013.
A 17-year-old who told authorities last week where they could find the bodies of two teenage brothers has been charged in their
deaths, and prosecutors want to try him as an adult.
The aggravated murder charges announced Friday against Michael Fay came just over a week after he and the teens were named in an Amber Alert issued after the slain brothers' mother discovered a gun and blood inside a trailer home where the three boys lived with their mothers.
The mother frantically called 911 on May 9, telling authorities to "please hurry."
The brothers, 14-year-old Blaine Romes and 17-year-old Blake Romes, were found dead several hours later.
Fay told officers that the Romes brothers were dead and pointed authorities to their bodies after he was found with a stolen car at a gas station in Columbus, about 120 miles southeast of the trailer park in Ottawa, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said.
He pleaded not guilty to a grand theft auto charge a week ago, but was not immediately charged in the deaths. The aggravated murder charges were filed Thursday in juvenile court, but a judge has been asked to send the case to adult court, said county
Prosecutor Gary Lammers.
Fay's attorney and his mother have declined to comment.
Authorities have released few details about what happened, saying they are limited because those involved are juveniles.
Investigators have not said how the boys died. Documents from the sheriff's office indicate one of the bodies was found at the trailer
while the other was found at a different location, but didn't say where.
Autopsies were completed a week ago, but the county coroner has refused to release the results.
Hundreds of classmates attended a funeral Wednesday for the brothers in Ottawa, a village of 4,500 people south of Toledo.
The younger brother, Blaine, was supposed to join his classmates on an eighth-grade class trip to Washington the morning he disappeared. His mother told a 911 dispatcher she left work because he was not answering his phone that morning.
He was on the basketball and track teams at his school.
Blake was a junior at Ottawa-Glandorf High School, where he was involved in track and choir.

OTTAWA -- The teen suspect in the killing of two Ottawa teen brothers has pleaded guilty Tuesday morning in a Putnam County court.
18-year-old Michael Fay faces two counts of aggravated murder in the killing of Blaine Romes, 14, and his brother Blake Romes, 17, whose bodies were found dead after Fay directed officers to their locations according to officials. If convicted, Fay faces up to life in prison.
Prosecutors said Fay killed the Romes brothers at an Ottawa mobile home where he and the Romes' family had been living. Officials issued an Amber Alert for the three teenagers when Romes' mother discovered a bloody crime scene in May.
Authorities discovered Fay the next day and arrested him in Columbus.
Earlier in September, a sheriff's detective testified during preliminary hearings that Fay lied during questioning.
WNWO spoke to neighbors of the victims who described Fay as a "normal kid, like anybody else."
Fay is due to be sentenced next month.
