Amber Alert canceled, Antioch girl found

Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Monday when a man allegedly abducted his 11-month-old daughter in Antioch, but the girl was quickly found and reunited with her family as police sought to arrest the father.

The girl was taken by her father, 23-year-old Joshua Elijah Benton, during a domestic dispute at a home near Rainer and Sunset lanes east of Lone Tree Way shortly before 10:20 a.m., police said.

As Benton left, he fired a shot from a handgun into the air, Antioch police Sgt. Mitch Schwitters said. Benton then got into a dark green Dodge Caravan that was driven by someone else, police said.

Authorities canceled the Amber Alert about 12:45 p.m., after police said they saw Benton holding his daughter a short distance from his home while being followed by family members. Benton handed the baby to a relative before fleeing on foot, police said.
