A 2-month-old girl is in stable condition after being left behind inside a car for about an hour in east Orange County, officials say.
Orange County Fire Rescue was called to Timber Creek Pediatrics at 12001 Avalon Lake Drive about 3:35 p.m. The mother was inside the clinic with her 9-year-old, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The mother realized the girl was left in the car and rushed her into the clinic, deputies said. She was transported to Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse Unit will investigate the incident.
A woman who answered the phone at the clinic declined comment.
Heat indexes were around 100 on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Will Ulrich, meteorologist with the NWS, said temperatures in a vehicle can rise as much as 50 degrees after an hour.
"You are talking about temperatures from 120 to 140 degrees (inside the car), which is obviously extremely potent to anyone left inside a car, let alone a child," he said.
