- New video obtained by CBS News 8 involving the Hannah Anderson kidnapping could shed new light on what happened. The images were taken as James DiMaggio drove past the Pine Valley Border Patrol checkpoint last August.
The video is from August 4 last year, the day authorities say James DiMaggio kidnapped Hannah Anderson. It shows his car pulling up to a Border Patrol check point in Pine Valley. It's easy to make out DiMaggio, but his passenger is somewhat blurry.
Hannah has always maintained that this happened after she was taken from DiMaggio's home and drugged. Last year she told the "Today" show the next thing she remembers is waking up in Idaho.
In this video and pictures it's hard to tell what DiMaggio's passenger is doing. In one, it looks like the person has his or her head up, possibly awake. But in another it seems like his or her head is down, maybe sleeping. The car doesn't spend more than a few seconds at the checkpoint, and since this video was taken before the APB went out for Hannah Anderson, authorities would had no reason to suspect foul play.
The sheriff's department has made it a point to say Anderson was never a willing participant and was the victim of the man their family trusted. Hannah considered him a second dad, but admits before the abduction he started seeing it as more.
James DiMaggio's sister has never believed Hannah's story and calls her brother an "accused" kidnapper.
"I remember very vividly telling my brother, she's trouble. She stated that she was very upset with her mother, she blamed her mother for her father moving to Tennessee. What other explanation do you have? Do you believe everything a sixteen-year-old tells you?"
