Man Accused in Sexual Abuse of Young Girl

A 66-year-old man is in jail in St. Johns County, accused of sexually abusing a minor.

George Lightkep Jr. is being held on charges of lewd and lascivious behavior on a child, and sexual battery of a child (less than 12). He is accused of committing multiple sex acts on a 12-year-old girl over several  years, according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

A report from the SJCSO, states the abuse included rubbing the girl’s leg, touching her under her clothes, and penetrating her with his finger. Additionally, the reports states Lightkep allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex on him on multiple occasions over the past four years; Lightkep also is accused of performing oral sex on the victim.

He was arrested in Marion County in August on similar charges; he currently is being held in St Johns County jail on $25,000 bond.

St. Johns jury takes 12 minutes to convict Marion County man in molestation case

A St. Johns County jury took about 12 minutes find a 66-year-old Marion County man guilty Wednesday of sexually abusing and molesting a girl over a 16-year span, beginning when she was 5 or 6 years old.

George Robert Lightkep Jr. was convicted of two counts of sexual battery on a person younger than 12.The State Attorney's Office said he will be sentenced to life in prison May 15.

Authorities said Lightkep, who once lived in St. Johns County, began abusing the girl in 1990 and continued to do so until 2006. They said “controlled phone calls” and interviews with the girl and a Marion County victim led to his arrest and conviction.
