PITTSBURGH —Six children between the ages of 1 and 12 were living in a house of filth in Troy Hill, according to court papers.
Pittsburgh police were on the scene as the Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families took the kids from the home on Lowrie Street.
The children left the house with the clothes on their backs.
According to a court papers, the children had black mold on their clothes.
The refrigerator was padlocked and the children were hungry.
The only things in the refrigerator were condiments and dried noodles.
The children used window curtains as toilet paper and slept on a urine covered rug in the living room, the court papers read.
Pittsburgh police arrested 52-year-old Dean Payne, the children's father. He was the only one home as their mother, 36-year-old Mickole Persinger, was arrested two weeks ago on one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to police, Persinger's 3-year-old was running in the street and almost got hit by a car.
Neighbor Tiffany Cochenour said she had been helping Payne care for the children since the family's gas had recently been turned off.
