Warren police are investigating as a homicide the death of a 3-week-old girl with serious head injuries.
The baby’s 25-year-old mother was arrested Friday on unrelated warrants and remains in police custody, Warren Deputy Police Commissioner Louis Galasso said.
The woman called 911 at 1 p.m. Thursday and said the baby was repeatedly throwing up, Galasso said. Firefighters who responded to a house on the 7200 block of Orchard found that the baby wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. She was taken to St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren and then transferred to St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, where she died. Tests revealed multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain, Galasso said.
“There is no reason to believe that this child met her demise accidentally based on her injuries,” Galasso said.
The hospital contacted Detroit police, who in turn alerted Warren police Friday afternoon. Galasso said Warren officers spotted the child’s mother while she was driving and arrested her on outstanding warrants for driving with a suspended license.
Police interviewed the mother and searched her house and the house of a neighbor. An autopsy is to be performed.

WARREN, Mich. - Warren baby death 4 Local 4 is on the scene of an infant death investigation in Warren. The little girl -- just 3 weeks old -- died earlier Friday at St. John-Providence Hospital in Detroit.
"It’s so sad," said neighbor Mark Williams, who watched as police served two search warrants on two homes in the 7200 block of Orchard.
Warren police first took a neighbor into custody. The child and mother live next door to the woman's home.
Sources tell Local 4 the baby girl was brought to the hospital unresponsive and suffering from multiple head injuries.
Neighbors tell Local 4 the mother herself told them the baby choked on milk and was in intensive care but our sources say the baby is suffering from a fractured skull.
Warren Police are trying to put together a time-line of events.
At 1 p.m. Thursday a 911 call came in from the neighbor’s home for a baby vomiting. The baby was rushed to the hospital and then transferred to St. John in Detroit.
Hospital staff alerted Detroit Police to the suspicious death. When police arrived, the baby’s mother fled the hospital.
She was arrested hours later on an outstanding warrant.
Warren Police are investigating the death as a homicide. However, they weren’t called about the devastating injuries or the baby’s death until nearly 24 hours after 911 was called.
Investigators now have some serious questions for that mother and her neighbor, they will undergo questioning tonight to find out what happened to the baby.

Autopsy: Blunt force trauma to blame in death of 3-week-old suburban Detroit girl
Baby rushed to hospital Friday, but dies; Mother in custody on unrelated outstanding warrant

WARREN, Mich. - An autopsy has found that blunt force trauma is to blame in the death of a 3-week-old girl who had brain bleeding and at least three skull fractures.
Police say the child's 25-year-old mother was arrested Friday at her Warren home on unrelated traffic warrants. Police say the baby died at a Detroit hospital and they had probable cause to take her into custody.
Deputy Police Commissioner Louis Galasso tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens that "there is no way these injuries could have occurred naturally."
According to investigators, the woman called 911 Thursday to report the baby was repeatedly vomiting after choking on milk.
Emergency responders revived the baby and took her to the hospital.
Police plan to meet with prosecutors on Monday to discuss possible charges.
