A Royal Oak Township woman is facing child abuse charges after her infant daughter was found dead in a motel.
Destiny Thomas’ 2-month-old daughter, Gabrielle Taylor, died of bronchopneumonia and malnourishment, according to a news release issued Friday by the Royal Oak Police Department.
Police were called Feb. 4 to the Seville Motel at 28300 Woodward in Royal Oak on a report of a baby who wasn’t breathing. When they arrived, Gabrielle was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
Police said Thomas, 18, was arraigned this week in 44th District Court on one count of second degree child abuse and one county of fourth-degree child abuse. Judge Terrence Brennan set bond at $50,000.
Thomas is next due in court Oct. 11.
The press release from police did not explain the time lapse between Gabrielle’s death and the filing of charges against her mother.
