Two women accused of theft face far more serious accusations after police say they left behind an infant during their alleged crimes.
Cherry Hill Police were called to the Wegmans market around 7 p.m. Sunday night for the report of two women at the store hiding items in a shopping cart.
When police arrived they were found out that two women darted from the supermarket after being approached by loss prevention staff. Police say the women ran but left an 8-month old boy in their shopping cart.
Police say they nabbed the alleged shoplifters -- identified as Kristi Kline of Wilmington, Del. and Christine Frater of Carlisle, Pa. -- a short time later in the Wegmans parking lot. Police determined Kline is the mother of the 8-month-old.
When police arrested the duo they also allegedly found drugs.
Kline, 24, was charged with shoplifting, child endangerment, receiving stolen property, heroin possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and sent to Camden County jail without bail. Frater, 30, was hit with shoplifting, stolen property and drug charges and released pending an Oct. 16 court date.
A family member is looking after Kline’s son, according to police.
