BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI) – A woman convicted of attempting to drown a baby in a toilet is now being charged for the murder of a second baby.
Elyse Mamino is currently serving six years for the attempted murder of her child in November 2008 in Columbia, IL. Mamino reportedly said she didn’t know she was pregnant when her child was reported to police as dead in a toilet. Police were able to immediately begin life saving resuscitation efforts. The living child is now in State care while Mamino sits in prison.
During the investigation, Columbia detectives learned that Mamino may have given birth to a baby in September 2007 in Belleville. Police found the bones of another infant in a basement where Mamino lived. According to a release from Belleville police, ” Detectives located the remains of a child in a plastic bag, wrapped in a towel, in a dresser drawer, in the basement of the residence during the execution of the warrant.”
Police say that the baby boy was born alive and died after being put in the plastic bag.
Belleville and Columbia police continued to investigate. New information in the case led Belleville authorities to recently charge Elyse Mamino with one count of first degree murder, and one count of concealment of a homicidal death. Mamino’s bond is set at $1,000,000.
She has been taken from prison in Lincoln, IL and is currently being held in the St. Clair County Jail.

I wish they would sterilize this baby murderer. I hope she never gets out of jail so she can't hurt another baby.

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - The Belleville woman who was in prison for trying to kill her newborn baby when she was charged with killing another newborn has been indicted on murder and homicide concealment charges.
The St. Clair County Grand Jury has ruled that there’s enough evidence to try Elyse Mamino in the death of an infant, whose decomposed body was found in a dresser drawer in the basement of the Belleville apartment where Mamino lived in 2007. The child had been wrapped in a towel and a plastic bag.
Mamino was serving six years for trying to drown her newborn baby in a toilet during a party in a Columbia, Ill. home in 2008, when a tip came in that allowed prosecutors to proceed with the charges.
Mamino is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

Belleville Police Arrest Suspect in 2009 Murder, Charges Filed
Belleville Police began an investigation into the death of “Baby Mamino” in 2009 as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Columbia Police Department. Columbia Detectives were investigating an incident that occurred in November 2008 during which the suspect, Elyse Mamino, attempted to drown a baby she gave birth to in a toilet. During the course of that investigation, Columbia Detectives learned that Mamino may have given birth to a baby in September 2007 in Belleville. Belleville Detectives joined the investigation and executed a search warrant on the former residence of Mamino, 5 North 42nd Street, Belleville. Detectives located the remains of a child in a plastic bag, wrapped in a towel, in a dresser drawer, in the basement of the residence during the execution of the warrant. The St. Clair County Coroner was on scene and took possession of the remains of the child. There was evidence developed during the investigation that suggested that the baby (a boy) was born alive at the residence. Mamino then wrapped the baby in a towel, and placed him in a plastic bag which caused the death of the baby. The baby was then placed in the dresser drawer in the basement of the residence until he was discovered by Detectives.
Belleville and Columbia Detectives continued to work this case while Mamino was serving six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the Columbia attempted first degree murder case. Detectives felt strongly that Mamino was responsible for the death of this child, and strived to hold her accountable for her actions. Recently, additional information was provided to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office, and their office has issued the following charges:
• Elyse J. Mamino, with a current address of Lincoln Correctional Facility, Lincoln IL, was charged with one count of First Degree Murder, a Class M Felony, and one count of Concealment of a Homicidal Death, a Class 3 Felony. Mamino’s bond was set by Associate Judge Randall Kelley at $1,000,000.00.
Belleville and Columbia Detectives responded to Lincoln Correctional Facility this morning and took Mamino into custody. Mamino was transported to the Belleville Police Department where she was booked according to department procedure. Mamino was then arraigned at the St. Clair County Courthouse and transported to the St. Clair County Jail.
