Mother appears in court over son’s stabbing death

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A mother accused of stabbing her 8-year-old son to death returned to court on Monday.

Jessica Murphy, 29, waived her right to a felony hearing in the stabbing death of Jacob Noe. Police say she stabbed the little boy last Wednesday inside their North Buffalo home on Lovering Avenue.

Murphy’s attorney, David Addelman, said, “Obviously what happened to Jacob was sudden and tragic, and the circumstances are quite complex. There will come a time in which Jessica’s defense will come forward. Today is not the day.”

Murphy’s family tells News 4 she was diagnosed last year with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The family says in her head, Murphy believed she was killing her son “out of love.”

If found guilty of killing her son, Murphy could face life in prison.
