Durham mother admits to killing daughter, police say

DURHAM, N.C. -


The mother of a 4-year-old girl who died Thursday evening admitted she killed her daughter, police said.

Jessica Warren, 27, was charged with first-degree murder Friday in the death of her daughter, Armani Hodges, police said.

Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez said Warren admitted to investigators that she beat her daughter to death.

Police and emergency medical services responded to the Falls Pointe Apartments in response to a cardiac arrest call just after 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Medical personnel made an attempt to resuscitate the girl, but she was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Warren is currently being held in the Durham County Jail with no bond.

Mother charged in child’s death at NC apartment; admits to killing

DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina mother has admitted to killing her 4-year-old daughter, according to WCNC-TV.


WTVD-TV reported that 27-year-old Jessica Warren was charged late Friday night in the death of 4-year-old Armani Hodges.

Earlier in the day, relatives could be seen openly weeping and embracing one another as paramedics removed the child’s body from an apartment building.

Authorities said police got a cardiac arrest call at 700 Falls Pointe Drive on Thursday night. Paramedics found the girl unresponsive and unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate her.

At least one relative speculates the child may have had a head injury.

“She was a sweet little girl,” said a woman who identified herself as the child’s aunt. She added that the four-year-old was excited about starting a pre-K program next week.

A police spokesperson confirms there was a 911 call for help and that call is now part of the investigation.

Warren is currently being held in the Durham County Jail with no bond.

No further details are being released.
