BABY LEVI - 17 months - Chattanooga TN
Father Speaks Out After Baby's Death
Wesley Beaty had not seen his son Levi, in half a year. And now, he must heal from this tragedy.
Updated: Thursday, June 26 2014, 02:04 AM EDT
June 1, baby Levi's mother, Amanda called 9-1-1. She said Levi was choking on a cookie. Emergency responders arrived, and said he looked gray and motionless. Levi was rushed to the hospital, and died that day.
His father, Wesley didn't know until the next day.
What he said he also didn't know was that Levi, and his two other children, ages 3 and 6, were in the custody of the state from November to May.
"That's what kills me the most," Beaty said. "If he wasn't wanted. He had a father that would love him and take care of him."
Wesley said he has been trying to get custody of his children since the day the couple filed for divorce.
"No child deserves anything he went through," said Beaty. "There's options, adoption, people who would die and pay money to go through the right steps and have children."
Levi's autopsy report showed several blunt force injuries and abrasions, both recent, and healing. It also showed a spine fracture.
Still, the baby was given back to his mother in May, after she passed a polygraph test.
Her boyfriend, Roger Dale Prince, was placed on a no-contact order, but he was there the day Levi died.
Now, Wesley's two other children, ages 3-and-6 are in foster care, at an undisclosed location.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
