Rosalie Joseph last saw her 16-year-old daughter early Monday morning in their Hawthorne Groves apartment.

Alexandria Chery told her mom she wasn't feeling well and planned to stay home all day.

While at work, Joseph called her daughter several times to check on her.

But her phone calls went unanswered.

When Joseph got home from work around 6 p.m. Monday, Alexandria was nowhere to be found, and her bedroom was "completely different than when [the mother] left in the morning," according to a criminal complaint filed by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Joseph also found a pair of men's underwear that smelled of bleach under her daughter's bed, the complaint said.

Personal belongings were missing from Alexandria's dresser and closets, and the bed was stripped of all sheets, comforters and pillows, officials said.

Blood splatter was found in Alexandria's bedroom, on the foot of an oversized stuffed animal, in the hallway and in a bathroom, the complaint said.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings on Wednesday called the disappearance of the Olympia High student "extremely suspicious."

And her mother's longtime live-in boyfriend, Sanel Saint Simon, 43, is now in custody, deputies said.

Saint Simon has been charged with providing false information to a law-enforcement officer and attempted destruction of evidence.

Authorities allege that Saint Simon tried to clean up the blood with bleach, Demings said.

Saint Simon also has been "untruthful" in much of what he told investigators, Demings said.

Officials are seeking information about Saint Simon's whereabouts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday. Saint Simon went to work at Boston Market on South Kirkman Road around 7 a.m. but left without clocking out around 9:30 a.m., according to the complaint.

Saint Simon originally told investigators he was at work all day but later recanted and said he was at a nearby shopping plaza.

Officials said Saint Simon was possibly driving a black Pontiac. The vehicle, which belongs to Saint Simon's uncle, was recovered along Silver Star Road in Pine Hills and is being processed, Demings said. His uncle told police that Saint Simon asked him not to tell police that he was in possession of his Pontiac, according to the criminal complaint.

Saint Simon is at the Orange County Jail on a $7,650 bond. During his first appearance in court Wednesday afternoon, he needed an interpreter who spoke Creole.

According to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement report, Saint Simon does not have a previous criminal record.

"Saint Simon's lack of truthfulness about his actions on the day Alexandria went missing has raised our suspicions about Alexandria's well-being," said Demings. "If anyone knows where Alexandria is, let us know. It is critical that we find out that she is OK, since indications are she may be in need of our help."

The Sheriff's Office said there is concern for Alexandria's well-being because it is unusual for her to not contact her family, she can't be reached on her cellphone, she hasn't updated her social-media accounts and she does not have a history of running away.

Alexandria's friends have taken to social media to help spread the word about the teen's disappearance.

Thousands are using the hashtag #BringAlexHome in Facebook posts, tweets and Instagram photos.

Alexandria's friends have also announced on social media a "March for Alex" at 2 p.m. Thursday. Participants are asked to meet at the Publix near Good Homes Road and wear pink or white.

Alexandria has black hair, brown eyes, weighs 105 pounds and is 5-feet-2. It is unknown what she was wearing.

Orange County Sheriff's Office Alexandria Chery, 16, has been missing from her Orlando, Fla. home since Monday. On Friday authorities reported finding a body of a female less than a mile from her home.

Four days after 16-year-old Alexandria Chery was reported missing from her Florida home, authorities say they have found a decomposing body of a female in nearby woods.

The body, found by a maintenance crew less than a mile from the teen's Orlando home, has yet to be positively identified as of Friday afternoon, said local officials.

"I know there is obviously great anticipation trying to determine if it was Alexandria Chery or not," Orange County Sherif's Capt. Angelo Nieves told reporters at the scene. "We're going to go very slowly and very methodically in order to make sure that we preserve all the evidence that is available to us here in this field."

The grim discovery, around 9:30 a.m., follows Wednesday's arrest of 43-year-old Sanel Saint Simon, the long-time boyfriend of Chery's mother.

When her mother returned home around 6 p.m., her daughter was missing, and so were most of her daughter's belongings.

The suspect in the disappearance of Olympia High School student Alexandria Chery is now facing felony charges after remains discovered on Friday were "preliminarily identified" as hers, according to court documents.
The new charges are among several details that emerged Monday in the case against Sanel Saint Simon, the live-in boyfriend of Alexandria's mother.
He was charged with one felony count of tampering with evidence Monday. Later in the day, authorities charged him with felony obstruction of a criminal investigation.
At a brief afternoon hearing, Circuit Judge Renee Roche temporarily set Saint Simon's bail at $500,000 on the tampering charge. The state had asked for the high bail.
"We believe that the nature and circumstances of the crimes charged are very, very serious," prosecutor Ryan Vescio said.

Defense attorney Melissa Vickers argued Saint Simon's bail on a low-level felony should not be as high as a killer's.

"If they have evidence to charge Mr. Saint Simon with murder, then they need to charge him," Vickers said.

Soon after the hearing, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said it had filed another felony against Saint Simon: obstruction of a criminal investigation. The agency asked for him to be held without bail, a request to be heard Tuesday.

A motion filed Monday revealed the body found near Interstate 4 and the ChampionsGate community had "numerous similar features and characteristics" of 16-year-old Alexandria, though "scientific confirmation" is still pending.

Meanwhile, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said its detectives "believe enough probable cause exists to prove Alexandria Chery is deceased."

The body was found after a landscaper smelled a foul odor near woods along Osceola Polk Line Road on Thursday, according to Saint Simon's arrest report.

The worker said he saw vultures circling and initially assumed an animal had died.
 He thought back to the odor while discussing Alexandria's case with a co-worker, and decided to return Friday morning.

That's when he found the body "decomposed beyond recognition," but described in the report as a small-framed female. Also found were several items "consistent with items described to be on Alexandria," the report stated.

Another landscaper reported seeing a black Pontiac Grand Prix parked along Osceola Polk Line Road.

Deputies say Saint Simon borrowed a black Grand Prix from a family member the night before Alexandria went missing. Authorities found blood inside the car, the report stated.

Alexandria was last seen July 28 when her mother, Rosalie Joseph, left the teen at their apartment in the Hawthorne Groves community. When Joseph returned home from work, Alexandria was gone.

Blood was found in the home, as was bleach authorities suspect Saint Simon, 43, used to destroy evidence. Blood was also found on his clothes, an arrest report said.

While investigators and prosecutors worked through the developments in the case, Alexandria's family continued to grieve.

More than 100 people attended a prayer vigil in the girl's honor at the family's church, The Kingdom Church in Pine Hills.

Alexandria's mother was not present, but several other family members were. One person who was not related to the family was so grief-stricken she needed to be wheeled out of the church by Orange County paramedics after the service.

I'm at a loss as to why a judge would LOWER the bail for this monster.  Some of these judges have no business sitting on the bench.

I read the article and I now see why his bond was lowered.  This article in from August 6, BEFORE they found her little body.

Suspect in death of Orlando teen charged with her murder

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — An Orange County grand jury indicted Sanel Saint-Simon on first-degree murder charges Tuesday in connection with the death of 16-year-old Alexandria Chery.

Chery disappeared from her Orange County home in July. Her body was discovered several days later in Osceola County.

Chery's family members told Channel 9 they were relieved to learn that the 43-year-old was being charged with murder.

"We knew this great news will not bring Alex back, but it's a great step forward for justice for Alex," said Chery's uncle, Ray Joseph.

Before the discovery of Chery's body in early August, Saint-Simon, the boyfriend of Chery's mother, was charged with providing false information to law enforcement, attempted destruction of evidence and felony obstruction of a criminal investigation.

Saint-Simon was accused of lying about Chery's disappearance and trying to clean up the bloody crime scene at her home.

"We firmly believed that this will come," said Joseph. "My hope is that he spends the rest of his life in jail, in prison."

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said Saint-Simon could be facing a harsh punishment.

"The stakes are high in this indictment. Obviously the charge of first-degree murder carries possible death penalty. The state hasn't announced they're waving the death penalty at this point," said Sheaffer.

Channel 9 learned Saint-Simon is an immigrant from Haiti, initially in the U.S. illegally, who was granted temporary protection status by the Department of Homeland Security.

Saint-Simon came to the U.S. after an earthquake devastated his country four years ago.
